Nexgen Team Xos Source Released
« on: December 13, 2003, 05:42:00 AM »

Well its been a long time comming but we have decided to release our official Team Xos source code out to teh public. This code will have bugs & some features wont be activated but hopefully with the contribution of the public some 1 will pick up on them & help us finish off this dashboard.
Some Knows Things about this source

1. Small network bug Nexgen wont boot unless network cable is plugged in hopefully some 1 can fix that.

2. Memory leaks Afew here & there can be fixed if located.

3. Minor ftp problems.

4. Many other issues. That can be resolved

WARNING DO NOT COMPILE THIS SOURCE & PLAY AROUND WITH IT ON YOUR XBOX IF YOU HAVE NO WAY OF RECOVERING FROM A BAD  EEPROM IMAGE.

If any one can help or has suggestions please post then bellow Or on our chat chanel #xboxopensource located on the Efnet server. We will be setting up a ftp as well for people to upload any modified source code files or zips.

The source can be obtain from our homepage www.xboxopensource.com & our sourceforge page www.sourceforge.com/projects/nexgen  .

We are also looking for some 1 that will be able 2 set up the cvs for us on sourceforge.

To run the compiled xbe u must have the coresponding CFG files that can be found in a seperate zip along with a skin.

These filles will aslo be found on sourceforge & on our website under downloads.

I hope that some 1 will be able 2 help us get a final version out. Benjeremy & other xbox coders  what do u think of our slopy code ? & does it have a future.

P.S excuse the typos its 1:00 am here & im dead tired

thank you.

[edit]
Hmm, I don't get the syntax of the config file.

QUOTE
-- paths for files 0:Apps 1:Emus 2:Games 8:Dashboards
findfiles(0, "STORAGE:\apps")
findfiles(0, "EXTENDED:\apps")
findfiles(1, "STORAGE:\oldskool")
findfiles(1, "EXTENDED:\oldskool")
findfiles(2, "STORAGE:\games")
findfiles(2, "EXTENDED:\games")
-- no recursion for these
findfiles(3, "SKINS:", "*.mg", 1)
findfiles(4, "SKINS:", "*.skin", 1)
-- don't use 5 or 6 as they are reserved for ftp / commander
-- don't use 7 as it is for wma soundtrack lists

-- default skin
newscene("SKINS:\xdash.skin")

What exactly is 'STORAGE:\' and 'SKINS:\' and why did you decide to put comments after a '--'?

dr.no, from what I recall without looking again..
STORAGE = partition1 = 'E'
EXTENDED = partition6 = 'F'

I can only assume that SKINS is the skins folder in relation to where nexgen is launched from.

well, thats what i thought too. but for some reason, i get a "ftp to your xbox and upload a theme"-message.

i did not change a thing and it should select the default skin then. i also tried renaming the skin, but that does not work either.

[edit]
Also changing the skin to

newscene("EXTENDED:\\apps\nexgen122003\skins\xdash.skin")
does not make it load correctly.

has going opensource sped things up?
Or is it actually slowing you down, I havn't seen any evidence of added code from non-XOS people...

I'm just wondering because there was an argument about whether unleashX should go opensource and I thought this would be a good way to discover whether its advantageous or not...
