Vista Beta Finally Works With The 360
« on: May 15, 2006, 03:11:00 PM »

I know a couple people have had differing questions about vista and what was or could be possible.

In previous builds of vista beta the extender was disabled or not yet functional.  In the lastest build everything works with the 360 and its all built in.  I didnt have to install windows media connect.  Anybody whos a beta tester or knows how to get their hands on a copy should definately give it a try.

I havent given vlc 360 or transcode a try on it yet though.  If anybody has installed either of those two programs on vista with success i'd appreciate any feedback on how well it worked or didnt work for you.

So does Media Center on the 360 look like the Vista Media Center, or does it still look like MCE 2005?

The top 3 are from the xbox.  The first is the new menu and the next two are of live television.

These two are from the computer and show the same media center options available on the 360.

The only difference is on the computer when you are navigating media center menus whatever your watching
fades to the back.  I think its a pretty nice feature.  Which is also my only beef with the new menu on the 360,
when navigating menus on the 360 and watching video all you get is audio.  Im hoping they implement the same fade to background feature on the next dashboard update.  Other than that im pretty satisfied.

nice shame the new version of vista doesnt work on a pal 360 but it might just be a bug that is fixed in the next build.

I dont see a reason why that wouldnt work.  I just cant vouch for the media centers behavior without a tv tuner installed.  Media center 2005 worked just fine when streaming video without a tuner.

Just got my hands on the beta 2 x64-version. Has anyone tried out VLC360 on this or is it just dreaming that it should work regarding the 64-bit OS?

the only bad thing (and if this was just me, let me know) with the latest beta of vista and the 360 is the nice UI with the transitions and nice visual effects are not ported to the 360 yet.  example, fading the tv to background whiles looking at the guide and such.
