PI Game Dump Extractor GUIs-- Posted by XanTium on December 11 20:50 EST
2 GUIs (graphical interfaces) for Team PI Coder's Game Dump Extractor(info) v1.0 were released.
For those who missed earlier news: The Game Dump Extractor incl. source code was released by Team PI Coder. It allows you to extract Xbox360-ISO image files (x360dvdfs). Just like the original Xbox (xdvdfs) the 360 does not use the ISO9660 or UDF filesystem for the content on game DVDs. This tools allows you to extract the files from an image in the 'Xbox 360 DVD file system' (.360). As there seems to be some kinda confusion about this: it does NOT bypass the protection that prevents you from reading an original Xbox 360 disc on your PC, so you can't use it to access/read original Xbox360 discs.

As this is a cmdline tool, some people released a Windows GUI for it.
One is made by Halobox (shown on the left) and requires the .NET framework v2, the other is made by Sonia360 (shown on the right).

Nice work on these. Makes trying these just that much easier.

Now if they can release the info on how they created the dumps that would be interesting.

Cheers!

How does this work?
Is the 360 modded already?
Or you have to have a XeDK?

I'll handle this one... J/k

Naw it's not. Not really close. In basic terms.. A group of guys manage to rip the raw data off of some 360 games. This program just allows you to look at the files within these rips.

You can not play them, copy them, burn them... ect... just look at the file within these rips..

BTW: This program does NOT copy games.

These two programs are used so that you can read the raw dumps of the x360 games.  There are three dumps that I know of now that you can find (fifa06, need for speed, and condemmed).

Warning: Stupid question from a non-techie ahead.

I'm still a bit confused. How did they get the raw data/binary information from the disc? I'm assuming they just modified an existing Xbox GDF reading program in order to read the dump itself.

No.

You have to already have a game dump, which I believe is probably illegal to download, and you can use this tool to take a look at the files inside. Right?

Game dumps were probably made by either using a modified firmware with a DVD drive (remember, not everything is released ;P), or with the XeDK itself.

if it was firmware related.. dont you think that they would of released that as well..
i think its nice they riped the data but its kinda dumb to not say how.

Which makes me believe like everyone else here that they have those stolen DEV Kits and are using them
to rip the retail games. Sort of lame and doesnt help anyone get any closer to modding.

its like cheating they are taking a shortcut and not really doing anything to difficult that no one else could do with a dev kit

Has anyone even bothered to aquire a *.360 image and extract it?

If so what kind of directory tree and files are we looking at? I'm guessing just like it is with Xbox, but what are some of the extensions etc.
