Hddhacker Replacement 120gb Drive Performance
« on: August 03, 2008, 12:52:00 PM »

Performance Results:

Well I decided to run a little test of my own, with the 20gb original hard drive and with a 120gb WD-BEVS hard drive (set up using The Specialist's HDDHacker  biggrin.gif ). Each test was run 5 times per drive and the average and standard deviation are shown. Also the cache was cleared on each hard drive before running the tests, to avoid any funny business:

Results:

Loading Game Library in Dashboard (time taken to display correct number of games, as well as last game played. Note the 120gb drive had a few more items installed, giving it a minor disadvantage)
20GB: 4.81s ± 0.21s
120GB: 4.03 ± 0.20s

Loading match in DBZ Demo
20GB: 9.88s ± 0.10s
120GB: 9.00s ± 0.04s

Initial Loading in Madden 09 Demo
20GB: 7.63s ± 0.14s
120GB: 7.37s ± 0.12s

Loading match in Facebreaker  Demo
20GB: 9.15s ± 0.08s
120GB: 8.68s ± 0.09s

As you can see, the 120gb western digital hard drive performs faster in every test, sometimes by quite a margin. Although this may seem pointless at the moment, once the fall update hits, loading times off the hard drive will become more important. And so will storage capacity of course tongue.gif Now everyone has TWO great reasons to rush out and buy a WD BEVS (LAT, RST or UST) SATA hard drive!
