ive forwarded the ports but still have to disable Norton for the xbox360 to connect to the MCE.

If i dont, it just asks me to try again or verify the settings. With Norton disabled, it works flawlessly. Once the connection has been made i can enable norton and it doesnt cause a problem sad.gif

Theres something with the initial communication... but what.

what ports are you reconfiguring - i dont have the list to hand but i remember i had to setup about five instances, i think it also worked better if they were all input individually

i can check when i get home

Norton is a systrem resource hog and is notorious for problems like this. Just get rid of that garbage.

im gonna give it another go tonight, making sure all files have 'permit' - failing that ill goto 2006.

failing that use Zonealarm, its much less of a resource hog and it won't have problems like this.

get rid of norton, it's a horrible firewall unless you always want to block everything and have a bunch of issues.  also why run a software firewall if you're behind a router?  some people think it's mandatory or you're a fool if you don't but if you know what you're doing you won't have any problems that a software firewall would normally prevent.  and, any problems you do have you'll be able to fix quickly, since you know what you're doing.  also if you are talking about forwarding ports on the router, there isn't a reason to do that.  just get rid of norton and say good bye to all software firewalls and you'll live happily ever after.

(if you don't have a router or other hardware firewall then you should use a software one, don't get me wrong there ;p)

I might add I am not using norton firewall - it sucks.

i used to use zone alarm, have it uninstalled for now,

I do have a firewall on my linksys router, might just stick with that.

There are plenty of reasons to run software firewall even behind a router.

im happy with norton, and am techy enough to know how to configure it as to not to cause problems. i run a hw firewall and this. i installed Norton 2006 and it worked flawlessly, i guess i just screwed my 2005 install somewhere prior to getting the console.
