What's A Good Rrod Kit?
« on: October 05, 2009, 04:06:00 PM »

My buddy just called me up today, "My xbox has 3 red lights, can you fix it?".

I see there's plenty of kits available today and they all seem to accomplish the same thing. Is there any one kit better than the other? Quality of parts, price, success rate, ease of installation etc.

Thanks.

oh also, his 360 has the HDMI port. I thought this was a newer version of motherboard that supposedly 'fixed' the RROD issue?

I have not known 1 RROD repair kit give a permanent fix. Your looking at anywhere between a few days to a few months. But eventually it will just die again. The best fix is just to buy a new xbox 360 I'm afraid...or if under warantee send it back to Microsoft.

Sending it to someone to do a Reflow could be permanent just like it could be for another 1-2 years.

So is it a good idea just to put the xclamp fix on a 360 that is working fine to prevent future RROD?

You heat up the GPU to 200 degree C so the solder balls will melt and 'reflow'.

I disagree completely. I did my fix over a year ago and I haven't had any problems since. DIY is the way to go.
