E74 Fix
« on: May 08, 2007, 03:39:00 PM »

I am sorry if this is the wrong section, and i cant seem to find an answer searching. My 360 has E74 as of this morning and i cant fix it, i even borrowed a different AV cable from my brother and the same error happens.

Can anyone tell me if there is a better solution than sending it to Microsoft and paying $150?

Any help would be great.

argue with 1-800-4-myxbox and try to get it fixed for free

if you already opened the 360 then try the x-clamp replacement

Unfortunately I have already opened the console ... This kinda sucks. And from what i have read the X clamp replacement wouldnt solve this issue.

the points are well documented.
custom make your own cable.
you must tie down the ID pins correctly.

i mean to say, solder the connection directly to the underside of the mobo. this will certainly eliminate any quesiton of bad connection.

I may be thinking of something totally different, however I belive that the E74 was thought to be a scaler-chip issue 90% of the time. Which means that sending it in to Microsoft would be your only option. However, if you've got a spare cable & confidence in your soldering skills, I'd try anything I could!

I received this error after doing the x-clamp mod. It was intially getting the rrod error and the xclamp fixed that. Then I got the e74 error after about a month and a half of hardcore gaming.  took the 360 apart and loosened the gpu heatsync, turn it on, it worked so I snugged up the heat sync again and away she went. It's happened a few times since but adjusting the heat sync brings it back. I may try the cpu next time as this may be the cause as well.

Anyhow try that out and see how it goes.

the E74 xbox I had would not boot ok with the x-clamp fix alone. I did both the x-clamp fix (lawdog's method) and the penny trick and has worked like a charm ever since.
