Well, I'm not sure what you mean by extra hardware pieces, but I did it using old hardware I had lying around. I used an old linksys wireless router (WRT54G), replaced the firmware by following this guide
here and turned it into a kind of multiport wireless bridge. I could then just use ethernet cable to my 360 and my TiVo (but for the tivo I also happened to have a USB to Ethernet adapter lying around). Obviously the simplest would be to just by the wireless adapter for the 360.
Edit: Forgot to add that hooked up this way I have been having troubles streaming media to the 360 (it does not see my computer on the network).
