An Hdtv Questions
« on: September 07, 2005, 03:01:00 AM »

I'm really sorry to ask this because I know how many of these topics there are.

But to play 360 in HD you need a set top box or a TV with a built in HD TV tuner right?

Are some setop boxes only compatible with certain TVs.

I'm looking at either this:

or this

http://www.theelectr...del=LAFINION70W

And then buying this HD TV tuner.

Would this work?

No you do NOT need an HDTV turner.. HDTV tuners are for decoding HDTV signals from over the air or though a cable line...

Any TV with component video inputs (Y Pb Pr) and support for 720p or 1080i resolutions will work great with the 360... I've yet to see an HDTV set that doesn't have component video inputs.

Alternatively you can buy the VGA adapter and output in a plethora of VGA resolutions.

they will both WORK yes... whether or not they're GOOD displays I have no idea...

Though IMO that site seems kind of sketchy and you really don't know anything about those TVs aside from the size...

Here is what you look for in a display:
-native 16:9 aspect ratio
-Native support for 720p resolution (or 1080i if it's a CRT)
-component input(s) (the best way to connect current gen and next gen consoles)
-DVI or HDMI input(s) with DHCP (this ensures you'll be able to play the upcoming HD-DVD and BRD formats when they come out)

and the most important thing to ensure is that there is no lag... most manufactures will not warn you if there is lag, the only way to tell is to actually test it or talk to someone who has used that particular display with games. If there is lag it makes the display complete useless for playing games.

Also stay away from any non DLP projection technology.
