M$ Rushing The Xbox 360?
« Reply #30 on: June 06, 2005, 07:21:00 PM »

The early release date with a reasonable price tag for an awesome gaming system, and another system called the Playstation 3, that is a bit more powerful, but its pretty much the same, with a huge price tag, and it's releasing late... Im thinking to go with Xbox 360.

the ps3 is not more powerful, it is also a much tighter as far as flexability for programmers. Both of the console are very simmilar as to the hardware but the 360 is set up to use all of it's potential.

how the hell did the ps2 sell so much  units  ?

Cause PS2's are crappy , they get damaged fast , so whatcha gonna do when you have already a lot of games , buy the same console again.  sleeping.gif

I don't believe that MS is rushing the console..

The specs are amazing....

There's this article I'm not sure about... but I'll post it on the "General Fourm" of the Xbox 360...

MS is very smart and knows that developers want more freedom to make games... And their specs prove it... but it's just on paper..

If you do fully argee with that.. then you know Sony's new baby.. the Sony Playstation 3 has to prove that it's the better console not on paper but in the real world..

The only gripe I have with the Xbox 360 is the DVD9 drive.  Maybe we will see an upgrade drive later on when Blu-ray/HD-DVD are available.
Of course the Battle of Blu-ray and HD-DVD hasnt been won yet but it seems more then likely Blu-Ray will be used and therefor sony will have Blu-ray with there console and Xbox 360 users could miss out on the HD DVD revolution?

Remember that some people may want to use there xbox's as a home entertainment solutions (playing games/movies & music)

Maybe MS are releasing a tad early. they will still make alot of sales but maybe they would make more if there was a certainty that blu-ray was the way to go therefor implementing Blu-ray drives in the 360 and not missing the extra content available on discs as well as being able to play the latest HD Movies.

At the end of the day it is hard to say wether it has been rushed or not. sure M$ will make there sales but how many will they sell?  we will have to wait how popular the Xbox 360 and we wont know that till the PS3 is availble.

laugh.gif. M$ didn't even offer the Halo movie to columbia pictures, based purely on that they are owned by Sony. tongue.gif  I expect DVD-9 at launch, and hope for a HD-DVD upgrade. Although the only point of it would be for movies because it would be a head-ache for developers to make games that have to support both, and would end up being unsupported like PS2's HDD. So here's to hoping they can include it at launch. beerchug.gif

I don't think theyre rushing it at all.  HD-DVD and BRD will not be popular for a long time. DVD was just adopted and noone wants to go spend more on replacement drives and discs. plus not many people own a hdtv. not worth it.

Is M.icrosoft really rushing or not?

At first, it may seem that M.icrosoft is really rushing the system too early, but when you get to know more about the console.. About Xbox Live, the games and the specs.

Now on just plain paper, the Xbox 360 seems a tad less powerful than the Playstation 3, but when you know about the 'unified shader architecture' which allows the Graphics Processor to be used to it's full power, of course you will never ever see that in a launch title for the Xbox 360 because the devs do not have the power of the full Xbox 360. ATI's graphics processor is 500MHz...

Now for the Playstation 3, It has a Nivida graphics processor that's 550MHz, although developers will be able to truly only use 60 to 75 percent of the processor's power while Xbox developers will be able to use 100 percent of the processors power (ATI)

For the CPU... They are evenly matched... but if you know SMT which is simultaneous multi-threading.. that is implanted into the CPU of the XBox 360.. What SMT is that it allows a core to create a "virtual" core that generally increases performance up to 50 percent. SO with three CPU cores... that sport SMT.. the Xbox 360 has the equivalent of six CPUs at work... which M.icrosoft says that makes the Xbox 360's CPU at roughly 80 times more powerful than the CPU in the current-generation Xbox.

Truly.. the Xbox 360 is more powerful than the Playstation 3 (Im not going to say how much) with all the little neat things that most people don't know about..

I think the 360 was rushed in the fact look at the specs on the ps3 .It walks away from the 360 and leaves it in the dust.Dont get me wrong I love my xbox and want the new xbox 360 .put spec for spec ,I would say ps3 had to have some insight on the 360 and its specs thats why ps3 went way out with the cutting edge
