« on: May 30, 2005, 10:38:00 AM »

I heard a guy say that if u have s-video it will look pretty close to hdtv, but not completely. My Sony trinitron has s video support. WOuld I have to buy new cords to get my tv's full potental, or will it come with s-video support?

from personal knowlegde, Svid will not compare to HDTV on a projection set itself, but Svid on your trinitron compared to 480p/1080i on a projection side by side, will be a little closer in comparision, SVID is great on normal crt monitors, if i had a non hdtv prjector that had Svid, id rather play on a crt will Svid

s-video will look better than composite cables, but not really even close to HDTV.  the s-video cable for the 360 will be sold seperately.

edit: yeah wtf? your tv supports component, use it.

See if your tv is an EdTv, you should know this.

Also, Deftech, what can you say about differences between a normal tv with Component cables and a tv in 1080i or 720p? IS there any mor enhanced quality other than color seperation, like removing some jaggies etc.

It does 480i, not 480p.

Buy the enhanced a/v video pack, which I assume you already have since you are using s-video. Go to bestbuy and buy normal component cables, On a 27" tv, monsters would be a waste of money. Standard component cables should do you fine, like these:
http://www.bestbuy.c...d=1051384792090

And since your TV has vertical compression, if you want widescreen:
On your xbox, change the dash settings to display games in widescreen. At this point, your games might appear stretched vertically. To make your tv display this widescreen setting correctly, access your tvs settings and select 'vertical compression to 16:9' and you will then get widescreen.

it's laughable that anyone would consider S-video even close to HD

S video is better than composite... that's it...

S-Video can only do 480i and it's not even the best cable for transmitting that format.

If the best you're TV has is S-video, then by all means, use it. but if you so much as have component then use that instead if you're looking for better video quality.

composite < S-video < component < RGB or SCART < DVI-I and VGA < DVI-D and HDMI
^ you can see S-Video is fairly low on the food chain of high quality video, out of the standard formats in use today, it's the 2nd worst.

And anyone who says S-Video is "close to HD" is either blind or an idiot.
