Video Support (mp4, Mkv)
« on: April 23, 2008, 03:06:00 PM »

I know this is probably posted here all the time but I had a hard time finding a lot on it. I use Tversity to stream audio and video from my pc to my 360, but I can't play mp4 and mkv files. I know these aren't supported by MS but I read that I should at least be able to stream mp4 files by using Tversity. If not, would I have to convert them to wmv format? It's really hard to convert a 4gb mkv file....time wise. Are there any simple solutions to playing these formats?

You should be able to use TVersity, but you would need to set it up so it knows to transcode. Personally there's no point as trying to transcode HD video and play it back realtime would require a CPU cluster due to the load required.

You'd be better to either leave mkv files to a HTPC or recode them to WMV VC-1 - there are some very good guides on how to do this.
