Yea, I'm going to have to join the club of people who don't see a point to this.

The analog->digital conversion WILL sacrifice quality compared to the internal converters in quality TVs if this thing is anywhere close to cheap.

The only semi-logical excuse for buying any <insert analog interface here> to DVI/HDMI adapter I've ever heard was if you're low on inputs, and in that case a standalone switch like the (remote controlled) ones Monoprice sells for $35 make more sense.  This cable will certainly be more expensive and since it's built specifically for the Xbox 360 it has limited utility, on top of the aforementioned quality concerns.

Even though I'm usually supportive of team-xtender I think this is a case of too little to late. If they wanted something like this to even have a shooting chance it would have had to happened before MS released a HDMI premium. Although people with a core and 10 million of the older versions would benefit from something like this, the 10 million will be a relatively small percentage of the actual number of xbox's sold.

The only way this could be a success is if it was cheaply priced, and I don't see xecuter going below 80. And I personally couldn't imagine paying more then 40 for something like this, 50 might be a stretch.

And the only technological reason I see for getting this would be to free up a component port, or if you have no component ports (like a monitor).

I've always hated XCM, and this doesnt change that. All this really does is put it into a different connecter.

I would buy it *IF* and ONLY IF:

If this cable will somehow fool the console into letting me select "fullscreen" aspect at 1080i.  That would be awesome!    I don't know what idiot back at Microsoft decided to dictate that if you had 1080 or 720 capability that you MUST automatically want/have widescreen....

I have a large Toshiba TV that has full 1080i support, but it is a FULLSCREEN TV!!!    I've played games on it with letterbox and the graphics are SUPER crisp, but I HATE how small everything looks.

If this cable will somehow let me use FULLSCREEN, that would be great, but I think that is a Microshaft limitation unfortunately...  on the other hand, if I could get the XBOX to think that it was outputting via VGA at 1024x768 or at another resolution like that, and convert that to HDMI that would be cool....but the only adapters I've found for that cost hundreds of dollars.

I just want to be able to play in HiDef and stay in FULLSCREEN....I don't see why that is too much to ask: Let the user have control over the aspect ratio!!!   Fucking Microshaft!

EDIT:  My TV will not take HDMI-A.... it will only take HDMI-D inputs.   So since this converts it to a digital signal, then perhaps there is hope.

Idiots at Microsoft dictating 16:9?  Ummm, last I checked, all HD content is 16:9.  Movies, TV Shows, and games.  And if you have a problem with it, most TV sets let you adjust AR.  It's not up to the source device (Xbox 360) to scale oddball ARs for people who want the image squished or cropped because they're allergic to black bars.

You're the one who purchased a 4:3 HDTV set.  Who's the idiot?

Thats no lie.

Yet I could see the benifit of haveing this cable. I have a 32" ILO HD LCD. Not the best brand, but it looks good, and is crisp. The problem with it is that it only displays 1080i thru component, but will display 1080p thru HDMI, so to have that cable would be great for me, considering I can get true progressive Scan out of this TV Finally.

I don't see why anyone wouldn't want this cable.  It lets you "get more enjoyable when playing game."  I'm already pretty damn enjoyable, so this thing is probably gonna make me soil my pants.

Sorry.  I really "enjoyed" the product description.

My Samsung 32" has 2 HDMI ports, one component, a vga, and a few analog ports as well.

My PS3 takes up one HDMI. The 360 is currently on component and my Wii is on the analog.
Since I have a component Wii cable, the HDMI solution from XCM would be good for me.

I'd switch the 360 to the second HDMI then (still have 720p) and put the Wii on the component one.

Or if anyone has another solution ? (component switchbox perhaps ? vgacable for the 360 (but is this also 720p ?) ?

Has anyone stopped to consider what is going to power this HDMI cable?  My under standing is that any Analogue to Digital conversion process generally needs a powered integrated circuit.

There's no such thing as HDMI-A.  There's DVI-I which carries VGA signals over certain pins of the DVI connector but that part was never brought in to the HDMI standard because it's pointless.

Only works if your TV/display takes DVI-I and not just DVI-D, plus as said above it's just VGA on a different connector.  Not digital, no gains over straight VGA.

Quoted for truth.  I've never seen why 4:3 HDTV sets were ever made.  720p and the 1080s are standardized ONLY at 16:9.  HDTV is by definition 100% pure widescreen only, buying a 4:3 HDTV was a dumb choice.
