I'm At A Loss.
« on: August 27, 2005, 08:49:00 PM »

I have been shopping for a new TV lately and can't find one that I want. I am looking for a CRT that displays 720p natively, but haven't found a single one. I have found some that up-convert, but that would look bad. Does anyone know of a 26-34" CRT that does 720p natively?

Do you even know what an 'aspect' is?

I'm gonna let you guys run the gun on this one.

Well, keep shopping. There are some high end smasungs that can natively display 720p, check out the samsung website.

well,it HAS to be widescreen seeing as 1280x720 is 16:9 pixel ratio, upconverting is OK your still seeing the same picture quality,so instead of haveing say one pixel displaying a color thats supposed to be show mabey there 2.....ect basically upconverting is fine unless its interlacing the upconverted video

I'm not an expert or anything on this, but I believe 1080i conversion will be done on the 360 encoder chip so your TV won't have to deal with it.  Remember, 720p is the MINIMUM resolution devs have to support.

there are hardly any HD CRT's that display 720p natively, most of them upconvert to 1080i or downconvert to 480p, and there are of course some better at upconverting than others so as long as you get the right one you arent gonna notice any quality loss in upconverting to 1080i

Why do you think all the display booths at E3 had LCDs and not CRTs?

Because they're alot easier to ship about, fit into the space and produce less heat? wink.gif
I prefer my LCD for the above reasons anyways.

They're a lot better. That's why most computer gamers have switched from CRTs to LCDs.

Wedding shirt..

Please don't take offense, as I have nothing against you and respect you otherwise...

but hardcore gamers who want the best pic quality out of their $600.00 video cards use CRT's my friend.

dont be all caught up in the "its thinner and more manageable" trend.

You sacrifice quality for size.

No self respecting pc gaming nut would be caught dead playing on even the top of the line LCD model.

Go check a hardcore Lan party, and ask the hundreds there why they lugged their heavy ass CRT monitors.

LCD does not compare to CRT, be it a pc monitor, a tv, or a projector..again, In picture quality comparisons.

Granted, LCD projectors are cheap and light, where as CRT projectors still cost tens of thousands, and weigh as much as a small child.

But the picture quality just does NOT compare.

Again, Im not here to start anything, this is not a lynching, just stating whats a known fact and will be for a loooong time until some new tech can compare to CRT's.

I hate to see people fall for the new tech hype and think its better than the old tech. In some cases, its simply not true, and this is one of those times.

I was under the impression that most computer users switched to LCD plat panels because they are thinner and take up less deskspace.  That's why I switched.  CRT's are way better for gaming, but I don't game that much on PC anymore so I don't need the refresh rates that video games demand.  So, despite your incredulity, I prefer CRT's to LCD.
