Wwe Smackdown Vs. Raw Demo On Marketplace
« on: October 08, 2006, 08:31:00 AM »

I just saw that the SD vs. Raw demo is on marketplace, and to be honest
this is the only game I've been wanting to buy in the next month or two.

Oh my gosh.
The demo looks unbelivably awesome.
THQ has finally done thing right as far as presentation.
I've always moaned and groaned about the cookie cutter experience when
playing their games. Although some things repeat, they finally have some variation
and more realilstic atmospheres.

1st, the entrances in the demo are insane.  Although I am bored by entrances, these
are 'creepily' real looking.  The closeup on Kanes face makes me say... "ewwwww....."

Lilian is in the ring announcing wrestlers, and during the 2nd entrance, the opposing wrestler
is at ringside.. instead of magically disappearing.

There seem to be multiple animations used as the grapplers are getting ready at the bell ring.
I've seen 2 different starts to the matches so far.

Gameplay is much faster than I was anticipating.  Also, the wrestler that is on a 'streak' can get
fatigued as well... this is brilliant.

The people in the crowd (although you can see some repeats) look like actual individuals
sitting at ringside.  This looks brilliant.

I've only played 1 game and watched the cpu play a game, but the controls (although many)
seem to make for fluent gameplay.

I am loving this demo, and it seems to have everything I've been wanting in a wrestling game.
Cant wait for the full version to come out and...

"Mrrrrrrrrrr Kennedy. . . . . . . . . . . . .Kennedayyyyyyyyyyyy"

What do you guys think?

..huh  go figure.
The game does have its drawbacks, such as the generic commentary
between JR and the King and some effects (like HHH's water) doesn't
look as good as the rest of the game does.
But there are always going to be some downsides to a wrestling game.
I'm trying to find a site to find out exactly what matches are available,
and how many people can fight simutaneously in the Royal Rumble...
Haven't found much about it yet.  Wikipedia had some info but not a lot of specifics.

I saw that some game sites are rating this a 9.0 - 9.2 game.

It probably won't convert non-wrestling fans, but for us fans it looks like it will be a hit.  love.gif
I hope online is as good as the rest of the game looks.

Eh... I screwed up and was reading reviews of an earlier SD game.

So, the reviews are not in on the game.

But my take on the demo at this point is 4.5 out of 5.

I am a wrestling fan and haven't liked a wrestling game since
the first Smackdown on PS1.  This one I'm pretty sure will take the cake
in my eyes.

Anyone who plays wrestling games has their own favorite.  No one ever
seems to agree on what the best game has been up to this point.

There are some of us who like wrestling games, and others who like wrestling and
are just hoping for that 'diamond in the rough' to emerge.

... and you would think that anyone who hates playing wrestling games would
just stay away from posts about wrestling games - because its just a waste
of time for them to throw thier 2 cents in - and then a waste of our time to read
what they have to say, plus responding to it.

Here are more screens, and after playing the demo - and then seeing these screens -
I think the game is going to be beautiful.
This will be great.. Female wrestlers that actually look like the real person.  I don't think
previous games have been able to do it!?! smile.gif

Funny how Kurt Angle is in the screens and he's in TNA now.... He will likely not be in the final version of the game.

*EDIT*

How big is the demo?, you might be able to find out in the Memory section... If its less than 700mb, how about sending  me a cd-r(as data disk)? I dont have broadband at the moment.. I may be able to get a connectivity kit sometime down the road to put it on my HD

According to Wikipedia, which is always up to date, Kurt is still in the game.
I don't know what their 'cutoff' is for pulling people out, but I would think this
close to the release, they are pressing dvds soon.
I think the boogyman is in too, and he has been MIA...?
Dusty Rhodes is in and he is TNA, so I think they will just leave Angle in.
He has done TONS for the company and I can't see WWE pulling him out.

I"m telling ya right now, my first match is going to be Mr. Kennedy VS The Boogeyman!
HEAVEN!!!!
The demo is over 1GB (not sure exactly how big)

Can someone tell me how to irish whip your opponent?  I haven't figured this out for some reason...
I'm guessing throwing them over the top rope would be the same move?
[edit]
just had a loading screen tell me the moves.
RB+A = Irish Whip
Hold RB and then A for a Strong Irish Whip

C ya.
