QUOTE
PARIS (Reuters) - Shares in Ubisoft (UBIP.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) rose 4 percent on Friday after Europe's second-largest video games publisher said its new action game "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfigher" had record sales in its first week.

The game, launched on MS's (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) new generation XBox 360 console and shipped to stores last week, sold more than 240,000 copies in North America, Ubisoft said in a statement.

In Europe, sales of the game in France, Germany and Britain exceeded 120,000 units over just three days.

"Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter ™ had the best ever first-week sales performance for our company and is looking like a major commercial success," Chairman Yves Guillemot said in the statement.

By 0830 GMT, Ubisoft shares had gained 4.01 percent at 36.61 euros, outperforming larger domestic peer Infogrammes (IFOE.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) whose shares gained 1.33 percent.

looks like the great relationship between Ubi. and MS is set to conitnue.   beerchug.gif

between the excellent sales of CoD2 for activision and now this, all of the reports from analysts about struggling with the whole next gen transition should be ignored.  as long as you make a quality title worthy of the attention and the user's money, the transition shouldnt be as difficult as reported.

Key word being quality.

I shudder to think about the thousands I have wasted on garbage games.

in all honesty i would say the biggest contributor to a game's sale is word of mouth.  games like GTA, halo, and GRAW have had a lot of attention from the gaming community prior to launch so that is sure to help.

sad thing is that not all quality titles get the recognition they deserve (kameo, Gun, King Kong, and condemned for ex.)

Just got my controller today and I will be getting GRAW tommorow. Ubisoft indeed does make games that are worth my money. The Ghost Recon series kicked ass I loved all of them and I am sure that GRAW will too.

I swear I read they were developing the 360 version seperately from the others, and if they didn't...well that explains a couple of things.

some perspective to this.. yes GRAW is a very good game, but as the userbase expands and early adopters get over the initial shellout for the console people are able to buy more games thus when a new game hits the streets more and more people are able to buy the games.

Over time we will start seeing numbers based on quality, right now those numbers are affected but not driven by quality.

please note - I know GRAW is a very good game (played it at work), I just don't think people should hold its success as highly as they seem to be.... pedestles are made to be broken.
