GTA:VC came out i was only 13

Release date: 2003. So your only 16? Good. They shouldn't have sold it to you. That law's there for a reason. If you acted like that in front of me you'd have been escorted out of the store also. They have the right to refuse a sale.

i used to work in a theatre and had to id people buying rated r movie tickets and i couldnt sell to anyone who didnt have id... i didnt agree with it, but it comes with the job... after a while of getting bitched at by kids who think youre just being an asshole for not selling them a ticket, you really dont mind refusing to for most of them... its not as though they are out to get you, they are simply doing their job... imagine how many jackass teenagers they have to deal with in that situation daily...

That's true. I got carded to see a movie and I don't get carded to buy booze (I am 21). Not much you can do. The world is messed; there are far too many sponge kids that soak up anything and way too much time on their hands. It's sad because it ruins it for everyone. (Not implying you're one of those kids)

But there is no need to take it out on the guys that work there, even though it's frustrating..

It couldn't have been said better earlier in this thread to be mad at the law not at the clerks.

hamwbone, yeah right, because i'd really love to waste my money on a car when i can just bike everywhere i go, fuck off, you'd be pissed too if you were in my situation. Shit, i thought i'd get some simpathy here but i guess i was dead wrong. I guess you guys arnt getting the point, carding for a video game is fucking rediculus, and not only that, those ESRB ratings are just guidelines to help parents decide what videogames to buy for their childern, in no way are they anything like the MPAA movie ratings where they have to be enforced. Not only that, i never even knew about this, atleast they can post a sign or something saying for now on you need ID to buy videogames, most rediculus thing ever, but thats the least they can do so people dont waste their time. FYI Keshire, i'm 17, i was born in 89', Your're right i probly shouldent have flipped out on the clerk, but but i was pissed i wasted my time to come down there. This is outragous, probly why i dont buy video games anymore, too much of a hassle. Now i have to have a 'rent with me every time i buy a video game, just not worth it.

No dude, it's you that aren't getting the point. There are all things that each of us likes doing in life, whether its a hobby, sport or job. And each of these, if we are to participate, have guidelines and rules by which we must comply. If you can't play by the rules, find something else to do, and quit whinning.

Depending on which Best Buy you went to, they probably didn't have many at all.  The one I work at (Cambridge) is one of the best stores in the company, and we only got 30 yesterday, but over the course of the next week we'll be getting about 80 more copies.  Call back tomorrow, and if they don't have them yet, they'll definitely have them Monday.

I have been told on couple of occasions by a few different cops that not carrying ID is illegal.  Better get with the program son.

... I remember when GTA:VC came out i was only 13 and they let me buy it no questions asked. ...

Considering VC was released late October of 2002 that would make you 17 (unless your birthday is in late October/ early November)

Massachusetts State law prohibits the sale of violent video game sales "to minors" meaning even though the ESRB says 17+ Your good state says 18+

An ID wouldn't have done you any good because you probably wouldn't have been old enough to buy it anyway.

I can understand not needing an ID if you're under 18... you really can't do any other age prohibited things until you turn 18 anyway.

There is no law that says you have to carry an Id if you are just walking around.  Who ever told you that is a fucking idiot.

Jeez, so much for liberal Massachusetts, when the hell did that law go thorugh? Anyways, all you people calling me a brat, or a 'prick' or immature, well you're wrong

They don't sell porn, cigarettes, or alcohol to minors either.  The game is rated M 17+.  If you're mature enough, then get mommy to buy it for you.

Yo, anyone over the age of 17 knows you NEED an ID to do almost anything as an adult!
You don't want to drive thats fine i live in the city where like no one drives but you bet your ass they have a fucking ID, cause you aren't recognized as an adult unless you carry an ID...
If you were an adult you would have know this and had an ID on you anyways and this wouldn't be a big deal.

You maybe not be spoiled but you are acting like a young immature brat, grow the hell up and ask your mommy and daddy to get you this cool adult game for Christmas or ask Santa.

Even in a forum where no one can see you to guess your age we all can tell you are too young to drive or buy this game (either that or your retarded) so quit your bitch'n

All in all I think that that law is a bit much.

But video games, music, movies are only as bad as the person using it.

just my thoughts on the "only having 30 copies" thing.  Wasn't the game supposed to be released next week to the general public and only this week to people with a pre-buy?  I know that all the stores around me have copies, but wasn't that the whole emergence day thing?

I am in my mid-twenties. I have been married 7 years. I have a 3 year-old son. I write software for the DoD. I look 30. I get carded when buying video games 50% of the time. I don't bitch. I smile and show my ID. I then pay for my game and go home to enjoy it. The law is the law and it is not worth that clerks job to appease you. In a court ignorance of the law would not excuse you from being held accountable when commiting a crime. You are a consumer of videogames and as such you should be aware of the laws that apply. As for your determination that the law is rediculous and should be reconsidered there is an answer for that as well. When mature adults are unhappy about pending legislation or legislation that is already passed they contact their representatives and voice their dissaproval. Even though you are not of voting age you are still a constituent with the right to contact your state representatives. Start a petition and educate people as to why you feel the law should be reversed.

Your age was apparent in how you wrote about your ordeal and if my child is of the same maturity at your age I hope he gets carded for a game such as GoW because when he comes to me to get it for him it will be a resounding, "NO! You need to grow up before you can play games with mature content."
