Xbox Too Slow To Play Movies?
« on: December 14, 2003, 11:52:00 AM »

I'v been trying to play some movies (XVID), and they run really, really slow and skip like crazy. At first I thought it was cause I was streaming them, but I copied it to the Hard Drive and the same thing happens. What could be wrong? Are they're any settings I missed? They play fine on my PC, but super bad on the xbox.

Also, right before the movie starts playing it looks like some sort of error pops up on the screen, but I can read it cause as soon as it comes up the movie begins playing.

Any help would be appriciated, the date on my xbmc is 12-11 if that matters.

i'll copy some of it it here:
QUOTE
The latest cvs build of XBMC (12-07-2003) listed the following in its decription:
-updated: use xvid codec instead of ffmpeg codec for playing back xvid movies

Using the previous XBMC build (12-03-2003) my large xvid clips played flawlessly. Now in the latest build, the video is extremely jerky and not in sync with the audio. I guess I liked the ffmpeg codec ;-)

Just checking to see if anyone else had a similar problem. I've also had problems with xvids playing well on my pc. I guess i'm just a divx fan.

I love the addition of the web server though. Great idea.

Just so you wanna know it was a 348 MB Family Guy episode in XVid which caused the problem in the new build. :-)

This fix works for me.  I just got into XBOX modding and xbmc.  It played everyting of mine perfectly except my Futurama DVD rips, which stuttered horribly until about 5 minutes of playing, when the video started to play nicely.

They play perfectly.
