FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup Achievement Guide
by: twistedsymphony

ACHIEVEMENTS IN FRIENDLY MATCH MODE:

Win on Perfect - 50GP
Won a match playing on Perfect difficulty level
Play a friendly match against the computer with the difficulty set to perfect. The easiest way to do this is to set the half time to 2min and keep knocking the ball into your own goal to give the other team points. When there are only a few minutes left in the game pause it and switch your controller to the other team, once the game is over you'll get the achievement since you were controlling the winning team and the difficulty was set to "Perfect".

ACHIEVEMENTS IN CUSTOM TOURNAMENT MODE:
For these Achievements I would recommend picking a good Team (Brazil and France are the highest ranked teams in the game) and setting all of the opponents to crappy teams (Liechtenstein, Faroe Islands, Andorra, Moldova, Luxembourg, San Marino, Azerbaijan, Aremenia , Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia are the lowest ranked teams in the game). Also if you happen to loose or draw a game, simply push the guide button then "Y" to return to the dashboard, then restart the game. Even with Autosave turned on it will still ask you if you want to save, as long as you exit to the dash before it asks, you can play the game again.

Win Custom Knockout - 100GP
Won a Knockout tournament created in the Create Tournament Mode
Create a "Knockout" (not Group Knockout) Tournament, set the number of teams  to 8 or higher to earn the achievement. The easiest way to do this is to set the difficulty to amateur, the half time length to 2min and the legs to 1 (so it's single elimination). You'll end up playing 3 games and you must win all three.

Win Custom League - 150GP
Won a League tournament created in the Create Tournament Mode
Create a "League" tournament, set the number of teams to 10 or higher to earn the achievement. The easiest way to do this is to set the difficulty to amateur, the half time length to 2min and the legs to 1 (so you only play the other teams once). You'll end up playing 9 games and you must have the most "points" at the end of the tournament. A win will give you 3 points, a draw will give you 1 point and a loss will give you no points. Pay attention to your points, if you're winning all of your games and the other teams are doing poorly in points you might be able to simply forfeit your last few games and still win the tournament.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN ROAD TO FIFA WORLD CUP MODE:
For these Achievements I would recommend Setting the difficulty to amateur, the half time to 2min, and picking a good Team (Brazil and France are the highest ranked teams in the game). Also if you happen to loose or draw a game, simply push the guide button then "Y" to return to the dashboard, then restart the game. Even with Autosave turned on it will still ask you if you want to save, as long as you exit to the dash before it asks, you can play the game again.

The Layout of World Cup mode is like this

-Friendly Match - 1 game
-International Open (Group League Tournament)  - 7 games
-Friendly Match - 1 game
-Qualifications round 1 (Group League Tournament) - 5 games
-Masters Tournament (Group Knockout Tournament) - 5 games
-Friendly Match - 1 game
-Qualifications round 2 (Group League Tournament) - 5 games

You can simply pause and forfeit friendly matches, they don't aid in any of the RTFWC mode achievements.

Win International Open - 200GP
Won the International Open in the Road to FIFA World Cup mode
Win the international Open after the first friendly game in RTFWC mode. It's a points based league tournament so you'll want to win as many games as possible, just make sure you've got the most points in your group, a win will get you 3 points, a draw will get you 1 point and a loss will get you no points. Also keep in mind that if you loose or draw you can always try again by using the exit to dash trick.

Win World Masters - 200GP
Won the World Masters tournament in the Road to FIFA World Cup mode
Win the world masters tournament after the first round of qualifications in RTFWC mode. It's a group knockout tournament so you'll need to win all of your games, You'll first play league style against 3 other teams in your group, then you'll play two more games knockout style against the top two teams from all the other groups. Also keep in mind that if you loose or draw you can always try again by using the exit to dash trick.

Cup Qualification - 300GP
Qualified for the FIFA World Cup in the Road to FIFA World Cup mode
There are two rounds of Qualifications in RTFWC mode. Play these as if you'd play a big league style tournament. As long as you've got the most points in your group at the end of the 2nd qualification round you'll qualify for the world cup and get the achievement.

GENERAL ADVICE:
Some people might find this game difficult to play, while the goals of the achievements are straight forward and they can be earned on the games easiest settings the game can still be unbelievably difficult, particularly to someone who isn't familiar with a FIFA game. So here are some general pointers

-Right Trigger runs, but the faster you run the less control  you'll have over the ball and the harder it will be to pass and shoot, you'll do much better if you set up a good passing strategy instead of running head-long for the goal.

-Double tap B to shoot, the B button shooter for the goal but a double tap of B will keep the ball low to the ground and dramatically increase your chances of scoring.

-Make use of the loading screen practice, try scoring goals during the loading screen practice mode, Scoring in the game is much harder then scoring here, if you can't score here you'll never score in the game. Try heading straight for the goal and double tapping B as soon as you make it into the box, Try different scenarios here and see what works and what doesn't. It's a very valuable tool for beginners and veterans alike.

-take possession of the ball. If the other team has the ball there are two good strategies for getting it back. The first is to be aggressive, and use the B button to tackle them (steal the ball). Be careful when doing this because if you're pounding the B button wildly the tackle button will become the shoot button as soon as you've got possession and then you'll just kick it across the field and probably loose possession again, this is only really desirable if you're right in front of the other teams goal and trying to steal and score, or if you're right in front of your own goal and just trying to keep your goal away from danger. The other strategy is to let the computer AI do it for you. Switch to a player away from the ball and let the computer players tackle your opponent for you, the game will automatically switch you to that player once they earn possession so pay attention or you'll loose it again as soon as you've earned it

-Protect the ball, if you're going to make it all the way to the other end of the field with the ball you'll need to learn how to protect it from the other team. A good passing strategy is typically the best but if passing is not an option a single quick tap of LB just before the opponent goes for a tackle will perform a step over the ball and keep you in possession to make a break for the goal. when you do this the ball will slow down so if you do it more then once at a time you'll keep running and leave the ball behind you (which is bad), so learn to use it once at just the right moment.

-If you keep drawing matches try changing the half time length to 4 minutes instead of two, I found that the extra time helped me score the one goal I'd need for a win instead of a draw and restart. Sure the games will be twice as long but if you have to play two or three times to do better then a draw then you'll be saving time in the long run.

-Keep playing you'll get it eventually, the game is hard and frustrating, the controls seem unresponsive but if you hang in there you can do it.
