You can buy a router and flash it with 3rd party firmware (like dd-wrt) which will allow you to use it as an access point.  You would then connect this to your 360 via an ethernet cable and use it just like the wireless adapter.  You can also just use internet sharing if you have a computer with a wireless adapter (and a free ethernet port).  Lappy/Desktop receives internet via wireless from your router and shares it to the 360 (connected to it via ethernet cable).
