On http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/powe...lnxw06XBoxStory there is talk of a a POST monitor, did someone already take a look at the extra connections next to the cpu?

On most routers there is a debug serial port right out of the processor, there's only a level converter chip between it (max232) if even connected (have a router running linux with usb for 25,-!!), maby this is the same?

There's even talk of a j-tag port, used for taking complete control of a unit.

I only hope that those fuses they talk about in the article arent blown and the processor microcode is the same as the debug boxes.

Hopefully someone will have the balls to take a look...

One whole year and no updates on jtag/serial? You have asked a very good question. Ive wondered this myself.

POST Monitor is active.

JTAG is not fully active
Kernel Debug is not fully Active
GPU Debug is not fully active.

i believe they can monitor the post port somewhat and have been at xbh.

Debug Bus "Post Bus" is in front of the CPU to the left. It heads to the bottom of the board. Not much that you can do with it now but monitor whatever your processor is doing at 1/4 of the regular speed. There is a SPI bus located directly in front of the CPU labelled DB6E1 - DB6E3. In order to use it you would have to know what to send it or ask of the processor through this port.

The UART is on pins 1 and 2 of the debug port near the video port. You need a RS-232 transceiver to communicate with it that is 3 volt logic capable. A usb to serial adapter may be a good bet but you would need to verify it isn't going to shoot the wrong power levels to the port.

Progress is being made but people have lives you know....
