20gb Not Working With Migration Lead

trying to transfer old files from 20GB hdd to teh 120GB (new elite)

but when putting 20GB (OLD) hdd on migration lead (USB) it does not spin up etc ... either on PC or 360 (it wirks ok if attaching it to its normal postion etc)
the 120GB (new elite) one does!.. both on the pc and the 360...

so short of removing the old HDD from the 360 enclosure, is there a reason for this !!!
why does the 120GB work on the migration USB lead, and not the 20GB ????

any one else had this problem, etc ...
how would i 'officially' do this ???  is there a disc that comes with migration lead ?
