You should re-align your modchip. It's not the BIOS that's not working, it's the modchip.

Anyways, X2 4980 is the newest BIOS out. It disables Live with modchip on. So, it's the best.

The light on the Matrix will always stay green even if its not working.  It only flashes red or orange or whatever when you have it in test mode or write enable.  I suggest you download some of the PDF docs that explain how to use it.  You can find them virtually wherever you can buy the Matrix chip. ...Explains all the settings.  Also, (explained in the PDF) its best to switch the Matrix to the mode you want it in while its on, turn it off then turn it back on again.  So if you have it in test mode to align it correctly, once you get it alinged, switch it to the mode you want then turn it off.   Don't ask me why,...just what they recommend.

I have found 1 problem with it,  it does not support 128 meg.  X2 does.

Do you think it's the game manufacturer that the x24979 has a problems with or could it be the xbox version? i just was getting ready to flash the 4979 bios in right now hmmm maybe i should go with the m7. also btw what is the IGR feature in the X2?? thanks

I have x2 4977 and xbox v1.1(X2 lite) and i have no problems loading GTA or GTA VC.  I have thought of upgrading but i don't want to mess up a good thing and until i run into trouble i will not be changing my bios.  I guess I will live by that old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I don't think it's been determined yet what the cause is of various people (myself included) reporting that their Xbox's are unable to connect to Live (even with chip disabled) after using 4980/1 for a while.

Until I see definitive proof that it wasn't the BIOS that caused it ... I'm staying away from 4980/1.  Just my personal opinion ... otherwise, 4981 is the most fully featured, yeah ... simply because it prevents Live while the chip is enabled.

That would be a ridiculous thing to prove.

When the modchip is disabled, the BIOS never gets loaded!  It's not a cold.  The original BIOS isn't going to "catch" the Live-disabled function.

OK, according to the nifty bios table, 4981 does not have LBA48 support... Yet, my understanding was that if one were to put 4981.06 on an X2.3b Lite + chip, one could then buy a large (>137GB but < 240GB) HD and still access it all on the f: drive, without any problems...

Correct?

blink.gif Must be some mistake in that table as X2-bioses 4979 and above all support LBA48..

I'm using X2 4891.06 with a 200GB Maxtor and my F: size is about 195GB...  smile.gif
So your understanding would definatly be correct... wink.gif

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find anything on it.

Is the EvoX M8 v1.6 still the only bios that will run on a 1.6 Xbox?
