I think that this is the most asked question next to "which modchip should I get?" you need to READ before you post.

I've been using X2 4979.06 with a very large hard drive with no problems except that 3 games don't run off the hard drive; grand theft auto III amd Vice City and ... one other by the same mfr.  I read in a post that this is a known problem with the 4979 bios & those particular games.  I like the X2 bios otherwise.  Thinking about changing to M7 just because of those 3 games.   Might try it out the next time I have to work on a box.  Either is probably a good choice.  I like that the .06 has already been patched with a >137GB patch.  I don't like having to use the XB tool thing cuz the first time I tried that I ended up with a very hosed drive, and I know it could have been any number of things, just had good luck with the 4977.06 on 320GB drive.

The IGR (in game reset) let's you exit out of games and reboot the dash. It's pretty handy. you use it pulling both triggers and pushing the start and black button at the same time.

I run 4979.06 with avalaunch and evox depending on which Bios I flash to run the dash I want. I haven't had any problems but maybe you should just load them both.

The difference is X2 4980 disabled Xbox Live when the modchip is on. A team wouldn't release a new BIOS if there was no difference from the previous one

I read in a post that this is a known problem with the 4979 bios & those particular games.

I have severe doubts about this.  It played the GTA3 for me fine (haven't tried Vice City yet).  I don't have a >137GB hard drive, but that wouldn't make much difference.  I'll bet almost anything that it's just a sour backup.

ive been using a X2 bios's since i first got my xbox..

2 reasons:

i tried flashing with the M6 bios (ages ago), and was unable to.. kept hanging.. so i flashed it with the X2 bios.. 4976.02 or something like that... and that worked fine..
and ever since.. ive used the X2 bios on my xbox, and ive never had a problem.. flashing... reading games... doing all sorts of stuff.... i use avalaunch.. and now i use the 4980.67.. but will change over to 4980.06 when i get my new hard drive!..

X2 all the way!!!

M7 bios... well i aint flamming it.. im sure its good.. but i cant give it my heart, to change to it...
