Initially I was envisioning running a game on the Xbox while I FTP in and play with some other settings.  Now that I'm thinking about it, it's probably more likely that it is a dedicated FTP daemon.  That is, you either use the BIOS's FTP functions or you run an XBE - not both.  That's just a guess, not having even downloaded the BIN, though.

I think it will be ftp INGAME as it says to enable it when botting up hold A. Therefor if you do this for all the time from then on the bios will remain the same...therfore allowing for ftp all the way through.

No lol 1meg... So we do need 2mb bios capability after all... X-Bit will be happy!

OK

I have the bios running right now.

The ftpd DOES NOT RUN ALL THE TIME.

XEERO was right in this.

You Press A, a nice X^3 FTP SERVER screen pops up, and there you are.  So, no, you cant ftp to xbox while playing halo wink.gif

100%

And to field the coming networking questions, here you are:

Change the SUBNET of your PC to 255.255.0.0, and the IP of 192.168.xxx.xxx, this will allow you to connect to any 192.168.xxx.xxx device.  So, NO, you dont need to change your entire network to 192.168.10.xxx to use this bios.  JUST the subnet. (Thanks to romracer from #xbins-chat for explaing to me how this works)

And I get about 1.2-1.3 megs a second.  Not bad at all when you use this to get your dash on the xbox.  Gone are the days of burning an Evox boot CD biggrin.gif

is it just me or is there no reason to upgrade to this bios? ive got avalaunch and evox and xbmp if i want to ftp. i thought it could ftp during games, which is cool, but if all it does act like a 'normal' ftp program just in bios... i dont get it. i'm not saying its a bad job by them, its damn cool and i wish i could do it, but unless the ftp is in game i'm waiting for the next bios to upgrade.

Well I think the biggest benefit of the ftp in the bios at this time is for those beginning to mod their box.  They now don't have to worry about loading any dash before they can ftp in which makes the process a hella lot easier IMO.

Hopefully they can make it do dhcp in the future though cause that would help me a bit.

I also like they added the new dash names.  But  I'll still be using XBTool cause i'd want to change that order to mxmdash.xbe first.

If you break Evox or your software on the hard drive, you just ftp using the bios's in built ftp. As Heinrich Said:

Pretty, much. You will just need to install a chip, flash it to this BIOS version and then FTP all the software over, correct me if I am wrong, but you can format the drive from FTP.

There was chat on the XBIT forum about the meaninglessness of a 2mb Mod, I guess It seems that we may need it after all. I assume that the x3 chip will have a larger EEPROM so they can put loads of good stuff into the BIOS. I also hope I can keep my headerpin install and dont have to buggger about with the D0 agian, just swap an x2 for an x3

Can you do me a favor and open the BIOS image up in X2BM, if you have it available?  I'd be interested to see if it sees it as 1024K image or 2 x 512K images.  768K seems kind of bloated for a basic FTPd.

I decided to see what this thing can do, and tried to FTP u64x, and roms to f:

After a few hundred megs I got this:

CODE
421 Out of memory

I tried reconnecting, and resuming the transfer:

CODE
150 File status okay; about to open data connection.
421 Out of memory.

So, while this is great for loading a dash on the xbox, or when something goes wrong, to fix filenames or something (I wonder how this bios handles error 16 (time), if it boots the FTP server before that kicks in), Large files might not be an option right now.
