X2 BIOS Build 4978 - Built in FTP
« on: July 31, 2004, 07:09:00 PM »

What ever happened to this?  Do all the later Xecuter bioses have this feature, because I've never heard of it.

Any way to FTP while I'm playing Halo with the 4981 bios?

it was only in the one bios (4978) and was done to show that they could embed a small xbe within the bios
halo will probably never have good ftp while in game due to the memory constrictions
keep in mind you can ftp into the xbox while in the game if you launch evox with tsr tools on then lauch the program/app/game from there

...ugh... yes you can
how do you think ninja gaiden edit works?
you ftp to your xbox while in the middle of the game, edit values currently in memory and voila you get new weapons, more potions, etc. it uses the ftp protocol  please research a little more before saying you can't

telnet and ftp are different...please research a little more before saying things you have no clue about.

edit: ya what h3inrich said.... beat me to it...ass

edit 2:
From http://www.pcwebopedia.com
Telnet,
(telĀ“net) (n.) A terminal emulation program for TCP/IP networks such as the Internet. The Telnet program runs on your computer and connects your PC to a server on the network. You can then enter commands through the Telnet program and they will be executed as if you were entering them directly on the server console. This enables you to control the server and communicate with other servers on the network. To start a Telnet session, you must log in to a server by entering a valid username and password. Telnet is a common way to remotely control Web servers.

FTP
Short for File Transfer Protocol, the protocol for exchanging files over the Internet. FTP works in the same way as HTTP for transferring Web pages from a server to a user's browser and SMTP for transferring electronic mail across the Internet in that, like these technologies, FTP uses the Internet's TCP/IP protocols to enable data transfer.

edit 3:
Ok so I did my research..this is from the evox readme
DEBUG TSR:

Debug TSR can be enabled from the settings menu.
Because of the memory usage it is not compatible with all games, and some will lock up.
Debug TSR can be used for making game trainers memory dumps, setting breakpoints etc.
Commands are issued from a standard telnet client.

XECUTER2 BIOS Build 4978
>> So what's new ?
Well we've been saying it for a long time - that Bios's would 1 day breal the 1MB barrier and beyond.
Team Xecuter are proud to give you a glimpse into to the future of Xbox Bios's and Modification hardware.
We have acheived another world first by embedding an entire FTP server into the BIOS - so as soon as you
install the mod you are able to FTP into your XBOX with no hacked dashboard installed - or you may have evox,
avalaunch, mxm or another installed but you messed up the settings. Those worries are now a thing of the past
with X2 4978. Now bear in mind this is a glimpse at some of the ideas we're working very hard on with X3 - it's
taking a long time to produce so we thought you at least deserved to get a glimpse of what to expect.
XBOX is set to a Static IP: 192.168.10.123, Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0, Login/Pass: x3 / x3
Simply setup your NIC to a similar IP (e.g. 192.168.10.50 with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 and NO GATEWAY or DNS)
The mod acts as normal in default mode - you won't even notice anything is different. EvoX FTP settings are not
affected and you have your perfectly normal (if you can call it normal) X2 dashboard.
To activate the FTP Server - simply press and hold the "A" button on bootup and then connect to your XBOX smile.gif
Speeds are not as fast as can be (dont forget this is Alpha) but you will still get a respectable 2000KB/Sec
I recorded an average: Transferred 1 file totaling 19,302,690 bytes in 10.23 (1,867.47 KB/Sec)
I'd also like to point out that we have changed the dashboard boot sequence:
1) evoXdash.xbe
2) avadash.xbe
3) mxmdash.xbe
4) xboxdash.xbe
Enjoy this latest release - trust is when we say we have SO MUCH MORE in the pipeline smile.gif

Priority #1 when I get home from work tonight will be poking around the kernel to change the IP address.  C'mon, nightshade, everyone's going to need a new XBTool build!!!  laugh.gif

Initially I was envisioning running a game on the Xbox while I FTP in and play with some other settings.  Now that I'm thinking about it, it's probably more likely that it is a dedicated FTP daemon.  That is, you either use the BIOS's FTP functions or you run an XBE - not both.  That's just a guess, not having even downloaded the BIN, though.
