evrybody seems to be talking about the format HD option in the 360 has anybody tried navigatiing to this menu and tehn swapping in a new sata drive and trying to format it?

Yeah you can only use hotswap tricks for devices that are not meant for hotswapping.  Counterintuitive but its because if the system is ready for the hotswap, then it will know that you are making a change.

that would basicly entail redesigning the entire SATA specification

or replacing the SATA on the 360 with an EIDE interface

Also, remember that in MS speak, 'format' probably just means 'delete user added data'

Just a thought but what about a split cable?

From Xbox.          To Hard Drives

If you connect one hard drive to the cable. Plug it into the 360. Then when you want to hotswap you connect the  other harddrive and disconnect the hard drive you want to swap.

Would this work?
