Someone on one of the other threads mentioned that he swapped drives with a friend and both 360's worked.

This would either indicate proprietary encryption (where M$ recognizes M$ hardware even if from different 360), or no encryption.

I agree that it would be suicide for them not to have encryption.

Has anyone taken into consideration that maybe M$ didn't put too much security into the 360 because they reckoned that someone would break the security anyway and would have it modded somehow? I know they mentioned it wouldn't be impossible, but would be harder than the original xbox.

I mentioned in one of the threads that maybe someone should try attaching a standard SATA cable to the controller board on the 360 and try a 3.5" SATA drive, like maybe a 300GB.

I thought of this because someone also mentioned that the 360 has a 'format drive' option in its menu.

We do know the 360 hdd is not locked, so there's a good area to begin as well.

But.. do we know for shure that the Hd´s not locked.
Maybe Micros... just letting us se what they want us to se, missleading us.....
Just thinking, maybe the box is looking for some magic
numbers in the firmware, and then it can DECODE the partition tabel,
file table etc, or maybe it´s a two way, looking in firmware AND on
special sectors on the drive to decode it all. Or the Hd could be
encrypted or partial encrypted..... Get my point ehhh????

i personally dont know jack squat about the 360 or even have one at that. but ive heard multiple places of hdd swapping and working and that pretty much says it there, its unlocked. an Hdd if locked will be locked to a system, labeling this to an xbox, the eeprom, serial # and kernel etc. You can also buy new hdd's ... so unless MS came out with a hard drive product in the last week that I dont know of... I think its unlocked, and many people would probably agree.

Okey nope2dope..

The only thing you know is that you can hook up
the Hd to a Pc and see the partition table. As far as i know,
no one has yet get a stock sata drive to work on the 360.

And still, if we got to clone the content to a stock sata drive,
we don't know if it is going to work, even if the partition is
identical to the Ms one. We don't know if the drive have any
special tricks in it's chip set, firmware or anything else, maybe
hidden sectors with information, fat tabels etc...

And, you dont know if the Hd is partialy locked (Yes, there is a
part of the Hd, 7 Gb i think, that is unused???????? as far as we know
right know. Could be anything on that part of the Hd.

The only way right now is: if you want a bigger Hd, you got
to by it from Ms, and they don't have it yet :-(
