Windows Xp 64-bit
« on: March 05, 2004, 08:34:00 AM »

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Xbox have 64-bit tecnology? I think it'd be extremly awesome if the Xbox could have 64-Bit XP on it. I know many people say XP will never see the light of day on an Xbox, but this might just be the answer (in some way). Also technically wouldn't 64-bit Windows software be more compatible with an Xbox? Please post any comments or specualtion.  <

no no and no... they're not the same thing.

WinXP64 is for 64bit processors, which the chip in the Xbox is not....

There are more technical explanations that would take much longer to type, but lets just say WinCE or WinXPE are much more likely candidates.  <

Ok, I hear you. What about the leaked Alpha releases of Longhorn, anyone know how different or similar that is to XP or CE? I'm just trying to "lay out on the table" all the Windows OSes there are and how compatible it might be on an Xbox.  <

We won't see XP64 on an xbox...

If anything we'll see XPe... IF that.

Personally, I don't see why people want Windows on an Xbox.  The biggest thing that people want that I hear about is a webbrowser.  And linux does that fine.  <

Well most of us are point and click people. we're not accustomed to typing in cammands to run a file. When I had Linux on my PS2 I could hardly use it. Windows (and even Macs) are user friendly. Plus there's alot better programs out there on Windows compard to Linux, you can do more. Also since most people have Windows it'd be nice to have compatability with their computers from the Xbox (and vise-versa), like text documents and such. To put it simply, most people are lazy. Also, the Xbox is built around a stripped down version of Windows 2000, could Win. 2000 be compatable with an Xbox?
BTW I'm not looking for an argument from people that are desperate to be in disputes with anything that doesn't fit their views, I'm just stating how it is.  <

Sure, the xbox runs a custom windows 2000 kernel.  The key word in there is CUSTOM.  It was designed specifically for the xbox.  That won't make it any more feasible to run that particular OS.  Like I said:

WinCE/.Net:  Sure.
XPe: Maybe, if someone wants to do all that work.
95,98, 98SE, NT4/5, 2000, XP etc.... Dream on.

But please, someone prove me wrong.  <
