Xpe On Xbox....
« on: February 18, 2004, 09:55:00 AM »

I believe I have found a way to run Windows XPe on the Xbox, legally. I don't want to say to much, but I'm almost positive this will work. I will need to put together a "Xbox XPe Team" to cover random issues as they arise. If you are interested reply to this topic with your creditials to work on this project. I have a bit of searching to do, I will post details as they come available.

*Edit* Please do not PM me...reply to this topic.

geee....you've found a way to run XPe on an xbox with some "extra" hardware.

Step1>  install Xpe on a standard PC computer
Step2>  Physically place PC "on" the xbox
Step3>  Done....Xpe running "on" the xbox

"crowd goes crazy"

No it involes a DiskOnModule (DOM) it's an IDE device that boots reguardless of the BIOS. I need a mini 44-pin to Standard IDE adapter to test it out. I also need to ge my hands on a v1.3 or lower Xbox as mine is v1.4 with Focus.

MSnyder,
If you are serious I have a standard IDE to laptop hard disk converter (I use it for imaging laptop drives - I'm an IT engineer), which is the animal you are talking about, and strangely enough as my Sig says I've got a 1.1 Xbox.
So if you need a crash test dummy....
Let me know

I have one of those adapters, it's not what I need. This is a 44-pin DOM Here is a link of the actual DOM, the one I have is basically the same thing except it has XPe on it with a license sticker on the flash chips.

how exactly would this be any different than just attaching a standard ide hard drive? wouldn't that also be "Fully Compatible with IDE Standard"? no access time and all would give you a super fast boot, i guess you could toss the xbox os on there and maybe things would run faster... but i don't see how this will help at all with running xpe or ce.

What makes this more likey to work well is that it's pre-compiled to run on a device very similar to the specs of the Xbox, the only difference being the proprietary NVIDIA video.

Give me a shoutout!  My email is [email protected].  I have a v1.0 xbox and would be willing to test, etc.  I would be glad to be part of the team.  I don't have much knowledge of XPe, though.  I do know C and a little bit of asm.  Lemme know if you need me to test anything out.
