Softmod For Falcon Xbox 360?

Hi, I was given an Xbox 360 with a broken DVD drive.  I was going to see about replacing the drive but wondering if I need to or if I could just softmod my Falcon Xbox 360 and somehow use my PC's drive to get the games off any discs I buy and copy it them to the hard drive or do I need to buy a new DVD drive to get them on the hard drive?

you might be able to pull the firmware off the old drive and re-flash it onto a new one. To do this you'll probably have to buy some additional hardware. If you want to play "backups" on your harddrive then you'll have to send your box to get JTAGGed or RGH (depending on your current dash).
