Using Chip To Make Hdd

I understand that the Xecuter 3 series does hdd swap.  

I want to know if the chip can prep my WD800JD drive to be a valid M$ drive, so that I can use it independently of the chip?

The main problem here being xbox live, because I plan to keep the chip 'off' while I'm online.  I still need to be able to use the drive without the chip.

I know it works as an adapter, but I plan to match the connections on my drive to the pinouts on the main board of the 360.
