Update: Xenesis 0.93 Beta Released
« on: May 31, 2003, 05:17:00 AM »

Xenesis v0.93 Beta has now been released.

The changes:-

Xenesis 0.93 Beta - Latest Revision
-----------------------------------

- New options on the Sound menu which should help fix sound issues with some games.

YM2612 Improv - enable or disable improved YM2612 emulation
DAC Improv - enable or disable improved digital audio emulation
PSG Improv - enable or disable improved PSG emulation

These are all options that are present in the windows version of Gens but until now haven't been active in Xenesis.
By default they are all set to On (they were defaulted to On in all previous versions of Xenesis too)

I have had reports that the sound in some games hasn't sounded quite right and I believe these options will help to put that right.

An example (and the one that I have received most reports about) is the sound made when Sonic jumps. Turning off PSG Improv makes this sound more like that produced by other emulators (I haven't had the chance to dig my Megadrive out and see how it sounds compared to the original yet).

Now that this is done I want to spend the time (that I mentioned previously) working on the new features and tightening up my code with the aim of eventually getting this thing out of Beta! wink.gif

Sorry I also meant to say.....

I'm thinking of sorting out a website for Xenesis and whatever my future projects might be.

Can anyone recommend a good (free) host?

Not sure exactly what I want on there yet - but probably news, work in progress stuff like that (I guess similar to superfro's mame-x site)

Cheers

Were I you I'd ask to get hosted on one of those sites that handles emulators. (especially now that you have a few releases out the door it shouldn't be too hard, even for an xbox emu).

The vast majority of free hosts suck and blow at the same time.

Anyway, thanks for the new version, and good luck finding a host =)

Most free hosts do suck!!! (my past experiece is poor, there are some okay ones like netfirms and there is this free one called flatface that I have heard good things about) Yeah try and get a emu host (seconds what faMiNe said). Maybe ngemu or consolemul (consolemul actually hosts gens pc!!)

I am sorry if this has been said before, but I cant get this emu to load. i have disabled all of the Evox IGR, do I have to disable the X2 BIOS IGR. I have latest X2 BIOS and Evox Dash, thanks Carcharius

What exactly is the problem you get? Does Xenesis boot and then freeze (i.e. can you see the rom selection screen but can't control it)? or does it not get as far as that?

Have you tried a different version of evo-x?

I dont even get that far, it gets to the evox loading screen and then freezes, it doesn't go to the rom screen, if I do get an older version which one do you think I should get, and would it be possible for me to run it in tandem with the newst evox that I am currently using (I mean sticking older evox in a different folder and then linking to it from the ini of the new evox, and vice versa). Thanks for the help, this is the best support I have ever had, especially for a charitable product!!

are you using the most recent version of Xenesis?

There was a problem with the very first release that caused the problem you are reporting, which I fixed for versions 0.91 and above.

Other than that I'm at a loss what to suggest. Is there anything strange about your xbox set up?

No strange set up, just a slayerts evox install that I have slightly modified, nothing strange. If I recall I got to the rom select screen *then* it froze in the earlier versions, I will download them all and see where I get in all of them. I've got an exam today but I should find time tonight, thanks again.

Sorry for the noob question, and thanks in advance for any reply,

The read-me says it supports sega-cd originals and back-ups, but I cant get it to start a disc.  Does it have to be transferred to the hdd and if not how do i get xenesis to read the game?

You can transfer it to the hdd and run it from there if you wish.

But it should boot straight from cd.

Stick the cd in the drive - from the game list screen press BLACK.
When on the menu, highlight 'Boot CD' and press A

If it still doesn't work - check the condition of your cd. We all know the xbox dvd drive can be flaky when trying to read stuff it isn't meant to. This only gets worse with dirty/scratched cd's.

If the cd is ok try changing the 'Perfect Synchro' option on the cd menu and try again

If that doesn't work try it in gens for windows - if it doesn't work there it won't work in Xenesis.

If it works in windows, try running it in Gens_XPort - if it runs there then drop me a line and tell me what game it is. If I can get hold of a copy (pretty doubtful to be honest but I'll try) I'll see if there's anything I can do to sort the problem out.
