No he is doing the right thing ranger,

He wants to upgrade his old blades dash to 7371 before he does the jtag. I do this to every console i jtag here. It is considered the proper way of doing it.

If it is not working for you ricflairandy don't worry about it. The tool from bestpig should be able to make your image anyhow. If not install XBR and then upgrade it to FreeBOOT .32

I have never done this and never had any issues.

What is the reasoning behind doing this update before jtag?

Because of the bestpig tool most people do not bother to update to 7371 but i have run into several consoles that bestpig has given me a error that it can't generate FreeBOOT. By updating it reduces the chance of the FreeBOOT toolbox failing. If FreeBOOT tool box just won't build your FreeBOOT then you need to do it the manual way following the FreeBOOT instructions so for the few seconds it takes to update to 7371 it is well worth it.

Well I have always used Jtag Tool and never had any issues.


But I guess there always could be a first. But out of a few hundred so far never an issue.
