http://gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php

theres the source to GAIM...why can't that be ported...it would be just as useful as a AIM port (especially since aim cant be ported).  if any developer would do this i'm sure we'd be really happy.

Can someone tell me why this is a great idea?  I think it's a terrible idea, convince me of why I would want to be distracted by AIM while I'm playing video games.

say i take my PC to a friends house...he is on his PC all day and night so i just sit there hanging out...i'd like to sign on aim to see if someone is on.  Having AIM on xbox i could just plug into his network and be on aim...we could both be using aim without having to share his computer....this has happened a few times by the way.

linux + gaim = aim client.

Due to linux running on the xbox, I doubt many people really feel the need to write a native port.

i do have gentoox and use gaim on it.  It would be much easier and quicker to just have an AIM app ported to xbox though.  i mean...

1.  install linux
2. run linux
3. wait forever for it to load
4. run gaim
5. talk

it would be much more efficient to just...
1. install app
2. run app
3. talk

Everyone tries to give the impression that Aim is a useless app to port when in reality Aim is probably one of the most used programs on the internet.

So you would have to chat with people with an onscreen keyboard or are you planning on having USB support for this?  huh.gif

It's a pretty good idea, but I doubt anyone will be interested. A nice thing to have would be a Trillian port (not sure if it's open source). That way, you could use AIM, Yahoo IM, MSN Messenger, IRC, ICQ all in one!  smile.gif
