Screenshot And Video Capture
« on: March 13, 2004, 10:50:00 AM »

I want to gather a group of xbox programmers together to make a nice useful little program on the xbox which would be able to do the following:

Capture screenshots in games
And possibly, capture video

All programmers interested contact me on msn messenger here:

[email protected]

I suppose C++ is neccessary. Good or bad. Give it a try smile.gif. Contact me.

Oh. I might ask for poeple who can do some decent graphics later on to help smile.gif

If its unsucceful I have many other ideas for applications on the xbox.

Screenshots can be taken by pluging in the output from the xbox into a svideo incard on a computer.. but if you really wanted to do it on the xbox, I would guess that it would be better suited to the BIOS... kinda like IGR, but a different gamepad combination... and it would probably require a 512k BIOS or better... could probably be done...

I do program, however I have several projects that I'm already working on (1 xbox, the rest are for work) and just don't have enough time to devote to a new project, sorry.  And as far as captureing the video from your pc, I use the program that came with my video card (I think it probably proprietary, so it wouldn't be of much use to anyone that didn't have the same video card, in which case, they wouldn't need it).  Anyway I think you can use windows movie maker if you are using windows xp... or you can use ulead video studio

Again, thanks for the info. But when your svideo is pluged into your pc you wouldn't be able to see anything on the screen....would you...or do you use that svideo socket on the scart converter thing?

Probably a n00b question, sorry, lol.

Oh yeah, if you dont know what scart is its because im in england meaning where on the PAL system.

I have a TV tuner card. Is it possible to pick up the xbox's signals and view the xbox's picture on the TV?

If so where do I plug the Ariel socket from my pc?

Ok... sorry... I'm completely unfamiliar with PAL systems, meaning many things... but for starters.. I know not the differences between PAL and NTSC (except that they are different standards for different parts of the world).  The furthest that I've traveled away from the U.S. is to Canada (that's only a 1 1/2 drive).  I'm thinking that someone who is more knowledgable on PAL systems would be able to help you better.  I will tell you my setup none the less.  I have a S-VIDEO connection pack for my XBOX (the one that came standard with the xbox, only had the left, right and video RCA type connectors).  I run the SVIDEO cable and left and right rca plugs from my xbox video connection cable to my SVIDEO in port, and audio inputs on my sound card.  This setup works great for me.  I hope you can figure something out... or someone that is familiar with PAL setups can help you better.

Isn't all of this stuff built into the debug bios?

You are just reinventing the wheel....

bingo. but iirc, you have to launch the games through the XDK (kinda hard to get but not really, and not legally)

As far as I know halo is the only game that won't work with a debug bios, every game I've tried I was able to take screen shots and movies without any problems.

If you guys do write support, good for you, but it is already supported great in debug bioses.

Well thats the prject. To get patch (or whatever) the default.xbe of halo and hopefully make it so you CAN do it.

I realise it works on other games but if this project is a success then there will be no need to get a debug bios so it would be better for moderate n00bs wink.gif

I really need more help now. it is GREATLY appreciated. Please ocntact me on the address on the orginal post.

Thank you,

Adam
