Can I Use Media Center Extender Without Getting Banned?

Frankly this is a question that I have. I would like to upgrade to see avi movies on the Xbox. Not yet upgraded for fear of having your console banned.

To see AVI movies you need the multimedia update which can only be retrieve from xbox live servers. Now if you have jtaged xbox this is a different story. If you already have the media update and it is installed correctly, meaning the xbox will play avi's when it's not logged into live then it should be perfectly fine. If your are afraid and want to disable live access when connected to the network you can do this on the xbox itself, I believe you need to create a child profile first though.

Try and play a divx file (via flash drive or disc) and see if it plays. If it does NOT play (says you must be connected) then you must erase the optional media update. Then, Create a new profile and re-download it. Then, you should be able to play videos under that profile without being connected to live. At this point, you can set your network connection to a static LAN IP, but no gateway. Or you can block XBL at the router. It's complicated but should be possible. Hope this helps.

Would you happen to know how to place the codecs on a Jtag box in the right file locations and where to get these codecs from?
