360 Cannot See Network Storage Drive Share
« on: December 08, 2007, 02:18:00 PM »

I want to use my 360 to stream my Divx files.

I have shared on my Vista machine (through WMP11's library) the following:
The "Documents folder"
An external USB hard drive
A Network Mapped Drive Buffalo Terastation NAS device

The 360 sees all the "library" material thats stored locally on my PC and on the USB attached hard drive.  It does NOT however see the avi files stored on my Buffalo Terastation.

I can see all the content when I'm looking at my Library (through WMP11),  from the PC.  I can't see the Terastation stored content though from the 360.

Is this a limitation of the 360?   Am I stuck having to copy everything back to the computer locally, if I want to use my 360 to view the stuff?

I can see the stuff if I'm using Tversity, but I don't care for tversity that much

Have you tried mapping the drive?

Yes, its mapped locally to my computer as Z:     and thats how I see in my computers WMP11 library, as where the avi files paths come from (they are coming from z:\video, and not \\terastation\share\video I mean....)

Hi there - I am having very similar problem.  I am using a Synology NAS device and tryng to share files from it via my xp machine using wmp11 and again it doesnt see the files other than locally stored ones - any help would be great.

Firewall is OFF to not get in the way

UPNP is enabled on the XP machine and my router

There are 2 possible fixes for your problem.

1.  You need to enable remote content sharing in the registry.  I found this solution on xbox.com

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME]
"EnableRemoteContentSharing"=dword:00000001

2. For my Buffalo drive I also needed to make another registry change for Vista.  I found this on Buffalo's website.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"LmCompatibilityLevel"=dword:00000002

Hope it works for you.

Tried the first registry fix which at least got the folders and files showing up smile.gif

Getting "cant play content" message on videos with status code 69-C00D36C4 which I will now go and see what that brings up.

Music also doesnt work sad.gif

May try the other reg fix you mentioned but I dont have Vista...

Thanks though - almost there I think smile.gif

Tried the other reg fix but that didnt work either.  I can see all folders now - but cant play anything - photo's, music, videos - all the same.

One more thing to possibly try.  I had quite a few issues with permissions on the folders.  I finally enabled guest access on my shares which allowed me to see contents.

wmc = windows media center?

If so I can use that and it will browse and play the files across the network fine but it doesn't play divx with only the dashboard update.

Hi,

I have just bought Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB NAS & was having the same problem getting the 360 to see the mapped drive & folders. I tried the two registry fixes & now the drive has appeared on the 360 but none of the files will play.

Strange thing is they will show up & play through media centre but not on the dashboard video tab.

Anyone else have one of these drives? I know there is an issue with this drive & built in DRM with the WD Acces anywhere software but I haven't installed that but it does say it's active on the drive.

Cheers
