Some iPods not Working on the Xbox 360 Anymore?

Word handed done from a few iPod owners is that Apple's latest firmware update has rendered iPod playback on the 360 iffy. Tony sent us a tip stating that his 5G iPod is no longer recognized by his 360 after updating the firmware on his iPod. We've also heard from various iPod / 360 owners that, for some reason or another, their iPods either never worked (in the case of the the iPod Touch) or just quit working (2GB iPod Nano).

The reason the ipods wont work anymore with the 360 is because apple removed the disk mode from ipods so they cant be read by anything but itunes. Even when you plug your ipod in it wont come up on the desktop/ My Computer.

The only way i know how to force the ipod into disk mode is by using the terminal through mac to run a couple of files to access disk mode.

i can't believe that apple would remove "disk mode" since some people like to transfer document files on their ipod devices like a USB flash drive - but than again apple likes to keep thing proprietary...there are still many 3rd party apps that can enable disk mode on the pc.

playing music on the 360 should not have anything to do with disk mode though...

i will try my iphone when i get home from work and see what happens...it has the "newer" 1.1.2 update...

You have got to be fucking kidding. I use my ipod as a storage device nearly as much as i use it for music. I use it to backup my files, and get things off friends. I highly doubt they have removed disk mode, especially since they have just released the 160gig ipod and claimed how good it is for storing files. And if they have, that is the stupidest fucking move in the history of apple and i am extremely pissed off. Im just gonna wait to see if this is confirmed before i update. It doesnt sound right.

Thats probably how it works. Winamp works that way from what i know. It just needs to find the database file on the ipod and then it knows what filename is what song. I beleive thats how it works.

Strange. My classic (latest firmware) is showing up in Explorer as a disk, even when I didn't choose to have it running in disk mode. My guess is apple changed the database structure slightly with the latest fixes and everyone has to play catch-up.

Its not the devices but how iTunes is writing the playlists to the ipod.  Downgrading to iTunes7.2 will fix the problem.  iTunes 7.2 can be found here.

http://oldapps.com/itunes.htm

When my ipod started showing up as an Audiobook device I knew something was up.  Downgrading corrected my problem.
