Microsoft Cuts The Price Of HD-DVD Unit In Europe

At IFA, Microsoft has made another step to help the HD-DVD format. The maker of Xbox 360 announced a 20-euro cut in the price of its HD DVD add-on drive for the gaming console. According to the Redmond company, the blue-laser high-definition-disc drives are to retail in Europe for 180 euros ($244).

This move follows a similar announcement made by the company last month, when Microsoft announced that the price of the HD-DVD player in US will be $179 instead of $199.

Sadly, no 8 (or less) free HD DVD movies like in the USA.

My god I can't believe people in the US are still asking for price cuts. I'm sorry but that is ridiculous, $100? Come onnnnn. And EIGHT free movies?! I tell you if it were $200 for all that here HD DVD would certainly be the format of choice.

And 180 Euros equates to £120 which is £10 lower. How lovely  huh.gif

It's been £109 here in the UK for a while now and like someone already said above some places do it for £99.

Yes its worth way more than 100$ (to other people), but aparently not many the way they are selling.  Buy the same exact movies I just bought on regular dvd?  Nope.

And you cant even rent the movies at Blockbuster?  Forget that crap.

My REAL reason for not buying it is it's a dvd drive M$ is selling.  I'd expect it to last about a year just like every other dvd drive from them.

When they drop it down to a price where I dont care if it breaks, I'll go get one.  I can lose 100$, I can't lose 200$ and have 8 movies lying around unusable.

More than anything I just don't trust M$'s stuff anymore.  Wonder what the warrenty is on it, 90 days?

I just see me plunking 200$ down for yet ANOTHER dvd player (I have like 10 like most people here) and then going to visit this page about a year down the road.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927406/en-gb

And again there is xbmc.  Id rather give the 200$ to them.
