Rip Dvd Collection In What Format?
« on: April 25, 2007, 12:15:00 AM »

next dashboard update will feature mpeg-4 playback (h.264). i suggest you rip to this format. also, it is superior to wmv, divx, xvid...

i'm in the process of ripping my dvds for playback on my 360 too. i have found 2 apps that can rip straight to h.264: handbrake and automkv. i prefer handbrake because it is simple to use and does the job. automkv has more feature and options but is still very 'beta'. it does look promising though and works pretty much like autogk.

i found that ripping to 1/3 of a dvd (~1.4gb) gives great results. however you might also want to try a fixed bitrate (~1500 to 2000). i can't recommend any specific settings yet because noone has been able to actually try h.264 playback on the 360. i do believe that 2 pass, anamorphic encoding, no cropping will be a must!
i think we'll have to create optimized presets for those two apps when next dashboard update is released, handbrake already has a preset for the ps3  laugh.gif
