Okay so I got windows mce running and can play wmv files on any xbox in the house. Now this may be a stupid question but how the hell do I find some software to take a dvd, select some content and then convert it to the latest wmv format so that my dvd backups will be playable on the xbox 360. Windows media encoder seems to not know what a vob is and all of the dvd rippers I've found on the web are just not made to output anything compatable with the 360!

Install AC-3Filter and a software DVD player. Rip the main movie to one big VOB with DVDDecrypter. Rename the VOB to MPG and open with Windows Media Encoder and reencode as desired.

I dont know alot bout computer coding and stuff but i rip my dvd's into iso files.... if they helps idk but its easy as hell to burn copies with nero

Doesn't seem to work. Remaning the vob to mpg just causes WME to spit out an "incorrect media format" error!

Use a software to compress the dvd to mpeg, or if you have a big hard drive like me do this

I use DVD Shrink and make a VOB file of the movie on my hard drive. Then i simply chaneg the naming of the file

for example VTS_VT1.VOB change it to Finding Nemo.mpg and there is your MPEG movie with full 5.1 sound. but thsi is not compressed so its still the same size as the DVD, whihc is no problem for me and really quick

I use #1 Video Converter

It will allow you to convert VOB files to just about any other format (avi,wmv,mpg) with perfect Audio and Visual quality!!!

You need a software DVD player, like PowerDVD or WinDVD, for the MPEG2 codec.

I do have a software dvd player, in fact media player 10 can play dvds so the codecs must bee installed somewhere...
