how is this a new way of watching Xvid/Divx on your 360?!?!?
Isn't it still being converted to WMV, and arent you running the WMV on the 360?
Think about, but not to hard. You might hurt yourself.

Playing Divx on media center –

Download Windows Media Encoder 9 from here and then Install.

Put your divx video in “My Videos” and then open up notepad, in the document write - mms://*INSERT PC IP ADDRESS*:8080 and then save your notepad file as *name of video*.asx

screen shot of what your notepad document should look like. (note ip address replaced with X's)

**for example if your video is called perfectdarktrailer.avi the notepad file would be saved as perfectdarktrailer.asx**

save the file to the directory of the video your wanting to watch.

Open up Windows Media Encoder

In the wizard dialogue popup box click “Custom Session”

In the sources tab change “Source From” to File and then browse and open up the video you want.

Use the other tabs to change the quality of the output. In this case we have set it as “DVD quality video”

When you’re happy with your settings click “apply” and then start encoding.

Open up media center on your 360 and locate the .asx file and play it, you should now be able to watch it on your xbox 360 J

With normal XP you can only listen to your mp3s and view  your pics.
With Windows XP Media Center Edition (Only available preinstalled on Media Center PCs, legally anyway wink.gif) you can also stream some videos like mpegs and wmvs. But even XP Media Center Edition doesn't support streaming divx and xvid with your XBox360.

edit: Merry xbox Christmas to you too smile.gif

Do you or anyone know about a friend with an illegal copy of Win MCE that actually works? streams videos and such? or only a legal copy would? the x360 might recognize it somehow?

it's cool to have friends who already tried..aske THEM and answer me..in case a friend of mine asks to me too

OT: If computer applications were as monitored and regulated as automobile and chemical emissions, MS would be hanged for stunts like this.

You need a 1000$, 300watt computer and a 400$, 200 watt console to do what a 20watt divx dvd-standalone does by itself. Talk about environmental.

In fact they should make application inefficiency illegal at retail level so you have to pay fines because your application draws up thousands of megawatts a year because its so inefficient biggrin.gif Obviously there arent too many green-minded folks at MS.

Ok, continue.
