Laptop As A Wireless Adapter...
« on: April 11, 2009, 05:51:00 PM »

Hi all,

I'm going crazy. I don't want xbox live, I just want to use my xbox to connect to my computer. I have TVERSITY and I want to be able to see my content on my tv!

Here's what I did:

#1) I went to network connections and selected 'share' y'know the option which allows other computers to connect to the internet through that pc. After doing so usually my internet doesn't work on that laptop then...

ONCE it worked while it was shared -- but it still didn't connect on the xbox. It failed the IP ADDRESS part.

#2) Bridge connections.

I select my adapter + connection -- but WHENEVER I do this I can no longer go on the internet with that laptop. (and ultimately the xbox fails the IP ADDRESS section)

I'm going damn near crazy -- I have the next week off... so I want to have some fun with my time!

thanks all!

I am guessing that you have a eternet port and also can use wireless internet on your laptop. Set the wire connection up as a static ip address and setup the wireless as the one that connects to the internet and allow internet sharing after everything is done just restart the laptop and then turn on the 360 and see if that helps

Yes I do have an ethernet port...

setting up a static Ip has never worked for me!

I have a router called "W20 Ericsson" it's like a router AND an internet connection. I forget the technology name... HSDPA.

anyway -- please help! I will up the pot to 15 $ via paypal (usd) to anyone who gives clear instructions on how I can solve this! I don't want to pay 100 $ for that damn microsoft adapter.

ive done this multiple times at hotels just to get on xbox live.

1. you have to have a wireless conection.

2. hook up xbox to your ethernet port on laptop.

3. goto network connections.

4. you should see xbox or unknown something of the sorts, and your wireless connection.

5. on your wireless connection goto properties and tick the box for allow other network users to connect to the internet blah blah blah. hit ok.

6. bridge the 2 conections. xbox and the wireless shit.

7. reboot pc and xbox.

8. you should be good to go.

trouble shooting tips.

disable firewall

should be good to go...

o yeah on the xbox itself you might have to goto network settings and change some shit there i dont remember off hand.

dude i dont want anything from you ,,

set xbox360 network address to manuall
step 1
ip address = 192.168.1.8 just to be on safe side incase you have other computers on network
subnet mask =255.255.255.0
default gateway=192.168.1.1

-------------------------------------
step 2
then fill in the dns

preffered dns =192.168.1.1

then test connection

if you have any trouble go to your laptop right click the wireless network icon in the contoll panel then properties then advance and then click on allow other network user to connect thru this computers internet

if you have verison dsl you would do the same but instead on the xbox360
it would be

ip 192.168.1.108
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.100

dns 192.168.1.100

anyway if you have trouble just post peace

You need a cross over cable if your directly connecting your 360 to the laptop network port.

correct, many laptops as well as the 360 detect the type of cable used and adjust the output accordingly.

also, please dont offer people money. this is a community forum, not a subscription service

"if you have any trouble go to your laptop right click the wireless network icon in the contoll panel then properties then advance and then click on allow other network user to connect"

this is the step that's not working for me.

whenever I do that... the internet stops working on the laptop!

my xbox still doesn't recognize it...

what do I do?

OKAY -- NOW A NEW DEVELOPMENT

Now my IP ADDRESS passes

but it goes down to PC SELECTED and says "Failed"

I have my firewall disabled (I've only got the windows one)

and I tried starting/stopping the WMP -- and I can't see my xbox through WMP media sharing nor vice versa...

please help! if it's not one problem, it's the other!!!
