Damn, where do you guys come up with this stuff? Its $50 a year, or $50 for a starter kit and a year free.

The casual gamer is not going to pay $10 a month for games... the HARDCORE PC gamer and console gamer are.

Yeah, and all those hardcore Sims players are just fine about paying a fee every month to play the Sims Online...

Its not going to be $10 a month because if it was $10 a month you could buy a starter kit and could out cheaper. So theres a very RARE chance its going to be $10 a month.

                                    Not necessarily...

Remember putting in your Credit Card info?  They have that, your name and address... not easy to buy ANOTHER starter kit (and the started kits will be limited... good luck finding one November of next year).  You name HAS to match your credit card... it won't be easy just making up a name to put in there....

I think it WILL be $10 a month... no LESS than $5, though...

50 a year...fine. 10 a month? I, and others, won't go that high sad.gif . As for buying another kit, i see no troubles with using the same credit card to register again- MS discussed this in an interview. They said the problem would be that you would lose your gamertag, but technically you could just buy another kit...typical yes/no/we're working on it answer  dry.gif

while PC gamers are getting all the online gaming they want for free.

No. Not all PC online games are free. MMORPG are not free, and the Sims Online will have a monthly charge.

you are all forgetting one important consideration ...
M$ could just stop the 1 year deal that comes with the LIVE Kit at time of purchase [ so buying a new kit would not help you if they do that ] .
More than likely this will not happen however unless they drop the price of the kit down to like $19.95 and then make you pay a fee each month [ nobody is going to pay $49.95 for the kit and $10.00 a month for service IMO ] . I don't think any of this will happen until the year from launch date anyway [ just so M$ can avoid mass confusion ... then again that has never stopped them before sad.gif ] .

I can remember paying MS $10 a month to play their Fighter Ace online game, that was YEARS ago.  I dunno what all the bru-ha-ha is all about.

Remember gamespy and the tunnel service? I think that not long from now a group of middle aged xbox enthusiusts will get together and start thier own server, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how micro$haft does things. think about it, start with 1000 members, at most 500-700 would be on at one time. i heard somwhere that each box needs about 125 kb of bandwith multiply that by 600 and you get 75 mb of bandwidth. NOW, Ewan offers a 7 mbps connection for $7,125 dollars a month. That group of xbox enthusiasts could theoretically offer service for $8 dollars a month.

But that's if the games are actually run using server bandwidth! Micro$haft may be running games without the server but just using peer to peer games (like the gamespy tunnel service) with battle reporting to the server. in that case i would think that someone could provide service for 5$ a month.

You may say "wait, live only connects to micro$haft servers..." well im sure someon could write a program to hijack that conection, you know, intercept it and redirect it to the other server...lol

Think on it.
