Xbox Games And Dolby Digital
« on: December 08, 2002, 07:20:00 PM »

Hi,  how many xbox games, if not all, support the 5.1 channels?

Is it worth getting that advanced AV kit?

Also, is th dolby throughout the game, or only in the cut scenes, etc?

i use 5.1 and it is definitely a plus with xbox!! Solidust's is far most the best!! he has speakers that would be too loud for a nightclub!! mines is basic, but it is definitely worth it!!

 me and Solidust are very close friends!! :D

TRY HALO WITH 5.1, FREAKIN AMAZING!!

If you have 5.1 sound system, buy a HD or Adv. adaptor. Strongly recommend ;)

Transworld Snowboarding and Splinter Cell also support it.  If you have a receiver + 5.1 setup, then you have no excuse really to not get the Advance AV Pack.  Halo and Splinter Cell truly rock when played in 5.1 sound.

Hehe, the poor old PS2 can have DTS/DD in it's games. BUT - like SSX Tricky - it has to sacrifice part of it's processing power to encode the audio signal.  I read in the Anandtech Xbox article that one of the vector units was used exclusively for that purpose.  The Xbox on the other hand, has the Conexant A/V encoder/decoder chip which doesn't take any overhead from the rest of the system.

cykiller you sound like you trying to win him over the ps2, he isn't even asking about ps2. Also there is over 2yrs difference in technology here, so obviously its going to be better.

Anyway not all games support true 5.1 surround sound, some are only 4 speaker surround, and others stereo [2 speaker],  just depends if they have been made to utilise 6 speakers or not.

Try medal of honor: frontline

I have it running on my 5.1 system w/ a 12" subwolfer.  It's freaking amazing.  shots wizz by you.  the explosions are so deep and increadible.  The omaha beach part of the game is worth the price of an xbox, reciever and nice sized speakers itself. :D
