Doom 3 Just Barely Runs

I bought a game console to avoid the hassle of installing updates, drivers and having/checking the right specs for PC games. But when I just tried to run Doom 3 on my (softmodded) xbox, it just barely runs. The loading message is showing during most of the intro and I see glitch after glitch (disc is clean). Only when I copy the game to my HD it runs better (but I still get the loading message quite frequent). huh.gif

Is this game designed to be run from HD? Is the lagging because of the softmod? Or am I expecting something out of the ordinary?   sad.gif

Just like any other piece of technology, the XBox fails me too. It was the DVD drive that caused the slowdown because of read problems. I had a spare XBox available (with a busted hardware mod) with a functioning drive, swapped it, and all turned out just fine.
