now that's a hard question. pop and rap/hip-hop are the same shit to me. people who can't sing nor play an instrument are trying to make money fast. |
You nailed it right on the head. I honestly believe, especially in Pop, some of these "artists" don't even belief in their OWN talent, but it's a terrific way to get rich.
I'd say that of mainstream genres, rock has historically turned out the most talent, however, jazz and blues top it (but aren't considered 'mainstream'). Notice I said historically... nowadays, great mainstream bands and musical talent are few and far between at best, since you really only see and hear bands as pushed by record companies. With that being said, the best bands in rock still are at least ten years old. Many of them are just posers with guitar picks, like Good Charlotte. But, rap-rock has trashed the rock genre for now, especially in America, and that scar will last quite a while in my book. The Australians and various European sources are still crankin' out some good rock. That is until our American noise pollutes their radio waves, as well.
In pop and hip/hop, well, it's all the same formulaic, cookie-cutter bull sh*t.
