QUOTE (DOS4GW @ Sep 28 2004, 06:46 PM)
Heh, I think he's looking for the best deal...

The best deal is the new Pontiac GTO for about $30k, which he clearly can't afford.

What are your priorities for the car?  (fast or good on fuel or looks wicked or pack in lots of people or ...)

What about a 3 series BMW or C class Mercedes?

BMW 3 series

Mercedes C Class

Used, 2000 - 2001.

Check the price tags on those of you're interested. I'm not 100% sure about the prices where you are.

Edit:

The Saab 9-5 2001 should be perfect for your budget.

A 2000-2002 Maxima would be a very safe bet.

Hmm, that autotrader.com seems quiet high pricing.

Check you "Buy now" cars at eBay.

Here's a few examples:

Saab 9-5 2001

Jaguar XJ8 1998

BMW 323 1999

Mercedes C 230 2000

I don't think stupidity is based on taste, so no.

I like that car too, the older ones were kinda ugly, but I dunno, hyundai has really managed to change its image from bottom of the barrell shit can, to a real competitor, you cant go wrong with one thats for sure, but buy a used one (id say 2000-2002) and put a nice stereo in it too, then you be pimpin

or you cold always get a riced up geo storm!

EDIT: 1994-97 5.0 Mustang GT Cobra, then spend the extra cash on mods... or gas   biggrin.gif  Freind of mine has this same car (1990) and it is damn fast and damn powerful. Add to that the nicer look of the newer mustangs (I just dont like anything after the really old ones until 1994) and you wold have a sweet car.

Also, If I had 17000, I would put a lot away for university

Mercedes and BMW's are nice, but realistically, who's would pay the insurance? (17 year old + high end luxury car = big $$$$!) Secondly, you have to look at the fact that a three year old car typically won't have warranty anymore. Thirdly, you have to look at something that you can get serviced locally, i.e. your local fixit shop won't be able to fix some foreign cars, and if the nearest BMW dealer is 40 miles away, you have to pay for towing.

If I were you, I'd look at something NEW (2004), there is huge rebates and discounts for the year end, and for the money you can find a lot of decent cars out there, with FULL warranty, and then you also won't be buying someone elses problems.
Personally - I recommend Mitsubishi, they have a hell of a warranty and the cars seem to never need service work, unlike most US cars.
