Beautiful work man.  I'll have to try them when I get a chance.  I'm not able to do much in the next 10 days or so.  Got a wedding and some other stuff happening.

What do you think about making a dual preview skin for the Colecovision?  madmab seems to think it wouldn't be to difficult, but is afraid that people won't make the dual previews if he puts it in the emulator (especially for the older, less popular systems like Coleco, Intellivision and some of the Ataris)

I think if we got a dual Colecovision skin out there we may see dual previews in XPORT emulation soon.  I already have the videos and artwork ready (I think there is two or three vids that could still be made).

Later,

Yo Madmab (and the adamx users eventually), could a skin like this be ok for you?
don't hesitate to leave comments, i can modify it
(yeah i know all my skins are at the same style; but that is what i want, question of esthetic taste eh!)

Actually for a "generic skin (aka same style skin)" I kinda like it.  Most generic skins I usually do not like.  I especially like the size reserved for ROM names (yes I know it's a fetish (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ).  Anyways the only two things I can think of is the buttons at the bottom would probably look better if they were centered beneath the rom list.  I think the box screen ratio may be off.  Colecovision boxes are about the same size of a typical Atari 2600 game.  I'd have to look real quick.

Here is an example..

(IMG:http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2793/beamriderujg3.th.jpg)

Really nice though.  Good selection of colecovision console images..

Not sure about the screen shot size you picked but a colecovision screen is 256/192 which has a ratio of 4/3.
Anyways great job.  What did you say your favorite emu was?

A possible suggestion (and it may satisfy those who don't like the rom list taking up so much space is to maybe shrink the vertical size of the list and place the picture above it?  Maybe?

Nice work, man...
Andd about what MadMab said - I agree.

In my skins - in the beginning - I was used to make the ROM list tall and short,
so most of the games never displayed their names entirely, forcing a horizontal scroll
in the box.

Then, after setting up screenshots for all emulators, for every single ROM archived
in my Dark-Pest, I figured out a new way of seeing the things.
Now I have a 100% wider and not tall ROM list where the names fit perfectly,
and in addition, I got a hell of a space to place the screenshots.

Maybe you can create a version using this different placement too...
Some people will like it, I bet.

Cospefogo.

I like 3 the best personally.  Wondering if there is a way to make the video preview larger though.

Perhaps something like this....

Buttons  <----->  Video
Buttons  <----->  Video
Screenshot <-->  Video
Screenshot <-->  Video
Screenshot <-->  Video
RomnameRomnameRom

What do you think gilles?

~Rx

P.S.  Would still love to see some sort of full-screen previews for the favorites list with a cool Romname platter centered at the bottom or something.  I don't know if this is something you can program in a skin or if it has to be handled in the emu itself though.  I'm dumb like that....

Ah ok rez~x !I understand now,
you would like this sort of skin in fact?
example 5)
(IMG:http://img37.picoodle.com/data/img37/3/9/8/f_preview5m_17c608f.jpg)
good news for you my friend: yes it is possible to make this sort of skin for all the emus!
just go into gameselect skin configuration and set the numbers of lines to 1 and adjust the y and x axis of the romname text
but eh! i think lot of guys like to see what are the games in their collection via the rombrowser
but don't bother, if its requested, i ll make gamesect screen like this for all emus, now i have the photoshop psd files, the pm3 emus skins are easy to do! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Number 5 is perfect for me!

Beauty man,
~Rx

EDIT:  Actually, come to think of it, could the buttons be placed below the screenshot (making the video a little bit bigger and artwork a bit smaller)

I think there may be a problem for me because I use the boxart, title, action and cart scans, so they probably won't show up well on a stretched out picture (thus making my Xtras packs not look very good when the game shots are preveiwed).  I never had a problem when the boxart was stretched wide a little, but the in-game shots would be severly distorted with that preview.

It's okay to have a few romnames at the bottom too.  I don't know how I'd like it if the ONLY name that showed up was the current romname.  Just a short list that showed the complete title at the bottom would do great.

Thanks again,
~Rx

I'm kinda partial to Example 1 myself.  Is there anyway to shrink the buttons/descriptions down and place them below the ROM list?  Cospefogo has an idea of what I was referring to earlier with the boxart and snap/preview being placed on the top half and a game list on the bottom.

Oh and on the main pic could the colecovision picture be pushed to the right just a teeny bit?  Just so the edge of the colecovision is near the edge of the screen.

I'm a little confused about what RessurectionX is going for?  Are you referring to a seperate skin for the game favorites select with larger boxart and screen/preview pictures and a smaller ROM list (say 4 or something)?  When ROM browsing I like to be able to see where I'm going.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Also we need to determine how the boxart snaps are gonna be handled.  Is there gonna be one Boxart pic per ROM?  Or more?  For example I can see some people, say, having front/back box art, and cartridge art.  Where are we gonna put them?  Seperate directories?  etc.

I'm thinking maybe having 2 or 3 skins for the user to select from may be an option considering how Giles is going about this it oughta be pretty easy.

I am voting twice and I love skins 1 and 3. I do like 5, but I hate the only one rom name displayed at a time deal

Here's what I was thinking for (just) the favorites view....

(IMG:http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/3039/supercontramt8.png)

Maybe I should be making skins  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Just kidding.  I don't have the patience for that with the other work being done now.

But anyways... only have one name at a time show in the emulator for the favorites like this, but the main selection screen could be half the screen devoted to names like it seems a lot of people prefer.  Even cooler if somebody vastly improves on my rough idea and, say, makes an animated plaque for the romname that floats towards the bottom and fire surrounds it or something.

As long as the screenshot previews work with the Xtras, whatever anyone else likes is good if we can do this.   I'd hate to have a great skin working against the artwork previews.  This should really be decided scientifically. I should send some artwork samples to you and anyone else making videos to fit them the best.  I use multiple previews boxart/title/action/cart myself so a very tall image will make the video shots look rediculous.  I think something in the middle that distorts both the least would be the best option.

It's cool if we have small previews though if we can make a favorites window that's full screen like that.

What do ya'all think?

~Rx

P.S.  I think that's actually Contra, and not Super C.... my bad..... about 6 beers into it.  Gotta go to bed soon  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
